Omega Seamaster Celebrates 75 Years With Eight New Watches
This year, Omega celebrates the important milestone of 75 years of its Seamaster model and to celebrate the moment, it chose the location of Mykonos in Greece to present to the world eight new models in eleven iterations.
For now, let’s address those models that impressed us the most.
Seamaster Diver 300M – Ref. 210.32.42.20.03.002/003
And starting with the most iconic of its collection, the Seamaster Diver 300M, it now comes with a “Summer Blue” dial, a common feature among the eight novelties although in different shades, which comes with a gradient effect darkening from the centre to the edges and with the traditional laser-etched wave pattern, applied hour markers and skeleton hands all filled with a light blue Super-LumiNova matching the date window at 6 o’clock.
On the outside there are no changes, wearing the same steel case introduced in 2018 with 42mm in diameter by 13.6mm thick, crown at three o’clock and helium escape valve at 10 o’clock, blue ceramic bezel with a light blue scale and the same bracelet of 5-link steel or rubber strap matching the dial.
Inside, it operates the Co-Axial Caliber 8800 that reaches 25,200 Vph and offers up to 55 hours of power reserve, which, unlike the last editions, is again covered with a solid case back that is now engraved with the figure of Poseidon with his trident and two seahorses. With prices ranging from CHF 5,200 to CHF 5,500 for strap and bracelet options respectively.
Planet Ocean 600M – Ref. 215.30.40.20.03.002
Planet Ocean, first introduced in 2005, is shown here on a blue dial with a vertical brush whose tone intensifies from the centre outwards, applied hour markers and hands in blue filled with light blue lume matching the bezel.
Outside the same 39.5mm steel case, 600m of water resistance and a 3-link steel bracelet with a brushed finish.
Inside the same automatic movement as the Seamaster Diver 300M also covered by a solid case back with the same figure of Seamaster Diver 300M that can be had for CHF 6,500.
Ploprof 1,200M – Ref. 227.32.55.21.03.001
The most exciting release, at least for us, is the return of the Ploprof 1,200M, which also returns in its original steel case and with new dimensions very close to the original from the 70s.
Wearing a monobloc case made of O-megasteel, measuring 45mm by 55mm and 15.5mm thick, a bi-directional sapphire bezel, screw-down crown, the iconic vertical pusher at 2 o’clock and 1,200m of water resistance as the last interaction in titanium. This time the brand chooses to attach it to a blue rubber strap instead of the traditional Mesh bracelet.
The sun-brushed dial comes with light blue hour markers and blue hands in different shades and this time without a date window.
Inside, it comes equipped with Caliber 8912 with a Co-Axial escapement, which operates at 25,200 Vph and offers up to 60 hours of power reserve. Also here is the figure of Poseidon engraved on the ribbed case back that does the honours of the house and the watch comes with a price tag of CHF 12,500.
Ultra Deep – Ref. 215.30.46.21.03.002
And since we are talking about diving champions, we immediately move on to the new Ultra Deep, based on the model that in 2019 in the Marina trench broke the world dive record, setting the new record of 10,935m.
As the Ploprof wears a case made of O-megasteel with a diameter of 45.5mm, the same applies to the bracelet where it is attached and an incredible 6,000m of water resistance.
The textured lacquered dial that tries to recreate the depths of the ocean beyond the hour markers and the hands filled with light blue lume, hides a feature that is only possible to observe under UV light, the design of the map where the diving record was reached, which also includes the inscription of the numbers and the phrase “Omega Was Here!”.
Inside it is equipped with the same Caliber 8912 as the Ploprof, which can be purchased for CHF 11,400.
Seamaster 300 – Ref. 234.30.41.21.03.002
Finally, we have the Seamaster 300 inspired by the 1957 classic, which like the other models mentioned above comes with a blue gradient dial, with the traditional sandwich construction and with the first layer to come in light blue showing the hour markers and Arabic numerals by virtue of the cutouts in the second layer.
On the outside, it wears a 41mm diameter and 13.9mm thick steel case, an anodized aluminium blue bezel, 300m water resistance and a 3-link steel bracelet.
Inside, like the new Seamaster Ploprof and Ultra Deep, it comes equipped with the Co-Axial movement Caliber 8912 covered with a case back drawn with the figure of Poseidon with his trident and two seahorses and this model is priced at CHF 6,500.
