Introducing the New Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport Line

Parmigiani Fleurier launches the new Tonda PF line that replaces the previous Tonda GT line, in total there are two new models that each unfold in two variants, which stand out for their more balanced and uncomplicated dials.

The new line is divided between the Tonda PF Sport Auto in a simpler version of time and date, and the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph which, as is quite evident, in addition to the time and date functions, also adds a chronograph function. As mentioned above, there are two variants for each of the new ones that translate into the case material with an option between stainless steel and rose gold.

And starting with the “simple” Tonda PF, the Sport Auto, comes in a 41mm diameter and 9.8mm thick case, the same fluted bezel but now with more notches, sapphire glass front and back, crown at three o’clock, 100m of water resistance and a black textile strap with Cordura-treated.

The white dial continues to come with the “Triangular” guilloché pattern, the same skeletonized hour and minute hands filled with black Super-LumiNova that also fill in the applied hour markers although now they come in shorter, the former small seconds “retrograde” gives now the turn to a centre seconds hand, and the same happens with the previous double date window at 12 o’clock which is now replaced by a single window at 6 o’clock, finally the past lettering of the brand at 3 o’clock disappears and the brand starts displaying only the logo applied at 12 o’clock.

Inside it comes equipped with the 179-component In-house Caliber PF770 that offers up to 60 hours of power reserve thanks to its two barrels.

The same formula applies to the new Tonda PF Sport Chronograph whose white dial with the same guilloche pattern, features the former three black counters although they now rotate 120° clockwise in their layout, and with the previous small seconds retrograde to giving way to a traditional running second, the double date window at 12 o’clock also disappears and in its place a date window appears at 4:30 and finally the previous lettering is also banned and in its place comes the applied logo of the brand.

On the outside, the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph wears a 42mm by 12.9mm case, also with the fluted bezel now showing more notches and with the same type of strap as the Auto version.

Inside is the powerful high-revving Caliber PF070 that dictates the rules, which is COSC certified and offers up to 60 hours of power reserve.

Our Opinion

Uncomplicated is the right word to describe the new Tonda PF line, which now appears neater and more elegant.

We think that Parmigiani perhaps missed the opportunity to go a little further by introducing, for example, a more moderate case size at least for the Sport Auto version, we also think that the date window with a black background would look better with a white background, although it remains to match the hue of the lume and the counters of the chronograph version.

The final balance tends to be positive, with most changes translating into significant improvements.
