The holiday season is always a special moment at Van Cleef & Arpels, and this year was no exception. We were invited to the Maison’s boutique for an intimate festive gathering, an occasion designed to wish us happy holidays while presenting the latest novelties from the iconic Alhambra collection — all in an atmosphere filled with elegance, craftsmanship, and seasonal warmth.

A Magical Welcome

From the very first step inside the boutique, the festive spirit was unmistakable. The entrance hall was beautifully decorated for Christmas, highlighted by a stunning Christmas tree that set the tone for the day. The refined décor perfectly reflected Van Cleef & Arpels’ signature blend of poetry, tradition, and timeless sophistication.

Guests were welcomed with the Maison’s customary hospitality, accompanied by a selection of delicious catering. It was the perfect prelude to a morning dedicated to beauty, creativity, and savoir-faire.

An Intimate Look at the Alhambra Collection

The heart of the event took place in a private room, where we were invited to discover the latest Alhambra creations in great detail. Introduced in 1968, the Alhambra motif has become one of the most recognizable symbols of Van Cleef & Arpels, embodying luck, harmony, and elegance.

During this exclusive presentation, several standout pieces captured our attention. Among them was the Magic Alhambra Transformable Long Necklace, a remarkable creation that can be worn as a long necklace, transformed into a shorter version, or even converted into a bracelet — a beautiful demonstration of versatility and ingenuity.

Equally captivating was the Vintage Alhambra Reversible Ring, featuring two faces that allow the wearer to effortlessly change its look depending on mood or occasion. This duality perfectly reflects the Maison’s attention to both aesthetics and functionality.

The presentation also included the Sweet Alhambra Watch, a delicate and feminine timepiece that seamlessly blends fine watchmaking with jewelry craftsmanship, offering an elegant interpretation of time.

New Creations in Rose and White Gold

The day also showcased new Alhambra pieces crafted in rose gold and white gold. These refined variations highlighted the Maison’s ability to reinterpret a timeless design through subtle changes in material and tone, reinforcing the collection’s enduring appeal while keeping it fresh and contemporary.

To conclude the event on a joyful note, guests took part in a lively gingerbread cookie decorating workshop led by Ann Kristin. Inspired by Christmas traditions, the activity brought out everyone’s creativity — with results ranging from classic designs to more daring and extravagant interpretations.

The evening ended with a panoramic view of the boutique, now filled with laughter, conversation, and festive cheer — a fitting backdrop for an event that celebrated both craftsmanship and the spirit of the season.

A Day Of Beauty And Craftsmanship With Van Cleef & Arpels And L’ÉCOLE

There are events that transcend the notion of a simple gathering—and the meeting organized by Van Cleef & Arpels, in partnership with L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts, was precisely that. Hosted at the historic Palácio de Santos, home of the French Embassy in Lisbon, the day unfolded as an immersion into craftsmanship, heritage, and artistic excellence.

Guests were welcomed through the palace’s imposing façade before stepping into an interior filled with warmth, conversation, and a refined welcome drink. The atmosphere set the perfect tone for the first highlight of the day: the insightful talk “Flora in Jewelry Arts”, presented by Gilliane Berardini and Laure-Hélène Delbot from L’ÉCOLE. Their expertise offered a fascinating look into how nature continues to inspire jewelry design across eras.

Moving through one of the palace’s breathtaking halls, attendees were led to an exclusive live jewelry workshop, where artisans demonstrated the delicate and time-honored processes behind drawing and crafting fine pieces. The precision, the patience, and the poetry of the gesture were on full display. Laure-Hélène Delbot guided the experience with her characteristic clarity, unveiling the meticulous world that lies behind every creation.

Another unforgettable moment was stepping into the spectacular Ming porcelain room, a unique space where hundreds of pieces form a ceiling-mounted pyramid that miraculously survived the 1755 earthquake. It is considered the third largest Ming porcelain collection room in the world—an awe-inspiring testament to history and preservation.

The day concluded in the palace’s graceful garden, where an elegant lunch brought together guests, artisans, and jewelry lovers in a serene and inspiring setting. It was a celebration not only of savoir-faire but of beauty, culture, and connection.

Van Cleef & Arpels Introduces Three New Creations to the Alhambra Collection

As part of this special gathering, we also discovered the latest expressions of Van Cleef & Arpels’ iconic Alhambra Collection, each staying true to the Maison’s spirit of luck, harmony, and timeless elegance.

MAGIC ALHAMBRA TRANSFORMABL LONG NECKLACES

A playful take on the classic Alhambra motifs, these new transformable long necklaces can be worn as a long strand, short necklace, or bracelet. They charm with asymmetrical motifs of varying sizes and refined combinations of materials such as rose gold, chalcedony, and mother-of-pearl.

VINTAGE ALHAMBRA REVERSIBLE RINGS

These reversible rings offer two looks in one: a precious stone on one side and a diamond-set motif on the other. The smooth rotating mechanism and signature beaded contours make them both elegant and versatile, available in harmonious pairings of gray mother-of-pearl, chalcedony, rose gold, and white gold.

SWEET ALHAMBRA WATCH

A delicate jewelry watch that alternates ornamental stones, fine guilloché work, and diamond-set motifs. With its golden beaded contours and refined symmetry, it blends the Maison’s watchmaking charm with the poetic soul of the Alhambra emblem.

A Kiss At Midnight: Van Cleef & Arpels Brings Romance To The Wrist

Van Cleef & Arpels continues to blur the line between high horology and poetic storytelling with the release of the Lady Arpels Bal des Amoureux Automate. This timepiece is the latest evolution in the Maison’s celebrated tradition of animated complications, fusing masterful craftsmanship with theatrical artistry.

The scene set on the dial is unmistakably Parisian, portraying a guinguette — a charming outdoor café and dance hall — as the romantic backdrop. In the foreground, two delicately sculpted figures represent a pair of lovers gradually drawn to one another. True to Van Cleef & Arpels’ narrative spirit, the characters do more than mark the passing of time: they interact, moving gracefully across the dial until they meet to share a kiss at both noon and midnight.

The time display is integrated into this tableau through a double retrograde mechanism, represented by two gold stars moving across a sky of grisaille enamel clouds. This configuration ensures legibility without interrupting the artistic integrity of the scene.

Underpinning the animation is a newly developed automaton movement, specifically created to support the dual motions required by the display — the synchronized advance of each figure and their gentle lean toward one another. This sophisticated choreography is powered by a mechanical manual-winding movement that also allows the wearer to activate the scene on demand via a discreet pusher at 8 o’clock.

Though the maison has kept the full details of the movement confidential, the focus is clearly on emotion and effect rather than technical exposition. The power reserve is rated at approximately 36 hours, a notable figure considering the energy required to operate the automaton feature.

The dial showcases the Maison’s commitment to métiers d’art, notably the use of grisaille enamel, a rare and meticulous technique that builds soft luminosity through layers of white enamel on a dark base. To enhance the visual depth, shades of midnight blue enamel are applied to the clouds, contrasting beautifully with the warm gold accents of the figures and stars.

Housed in a diamond-set white gold case measuring 38mm, the watch is finished with a caseback engraved with swirling motifs, preserving the mystique of the hidden movement while reinforcing the aesthetic harmony of the piece.

As with previous creations in the Poetic Complications collection, the Lady Arpels Bal des Amoureux Automate is more than a watch — it’s a miniature performance on the wrist, where engineering and emotion meet in perfect balance.

The new Alhambra Collection by Van Cleef & Arpels exemplifies the brand’s jewellery craftsmanship and expertise, particularly in the selection of stones and the use of diverse materials and hues. A key feature of this collection is the guilloché motif, which has been a part of the Maison’s aesthetic since the early 20th century. Introduced to the Alhambra collection in 2018 for its 50th anniversary, the guilloché motif is known for its sunbeam-like streaks that texture gold surfaces, creating captivating luminous reflections when paired with ornamental stones or diamonds.

Blue agate, a form of translucent chalcedony, is another standout element in the collection, first incorporated in 1989. Van Cleef & Arpels places a high emphasis on the quality of the blue agate, selecting stones with a pure material composition, intense colour, and a lustrous surface. Each piece is carefully matched to create harmonious ensembles, with slight natural variations in opacity adding unique charm to each creation. The blue agate motifs are bordered by a beaded contour, a hallmark of the Maison’s style, which accentuates the combination of the guilloché texture and the deep blue stone.

A notable addition to the collection in 2023 is the Vintage Alhambra reversible ring. This piece reflects Van Cleef & Arpels’ tradition of creating versatile jewelry. The ring features two faces: one in guilloché yellow gold set with a diamond, and the other in blue agate, surrounded by a double-beaded contour that mirrors the collection’s design codes. The ring’s body consists of three rows of cascading golden beads, securing the central motif, with a mechanism that allows it to rotate smoothly. The design also includes a half-round band of gold that ensures a comfortable fit, while the height of the close-set diamond is carefully calibrated to maintain comfort and the stone’s brilliance.

The Sweet Alhambra watch, an evolving part of the collection since 1998, brings together guilloché yellow gold and blue agate in its latest iteration. The creation of this piece involves fifteen meticulous steps, from the initial selection of rough stones to the final polishing. Each motif is set within a beaded frame that is crafted with precision by skilled artisans, and the watch is polished to a high shine to enhance its visual appeal.

Overall, the new Alhambra Collection demonstrates Van Cleef & Arpels’ dedication to combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative design, resulting in jewellery pieces that are both elegant and versatile.

Richemont’s Leadership Shift: Ferla Leads Cartier, Rénier To Van Cleef & Arpels

After nine years under Cyrille Vigneron, Richemont has appointed Louis Ferla as the new CEO of Cartier. Ferla, previously head of Vacheron Constantin, is known for his operational expertise and successful leadership, bringing Vacheron Constantin into the billionaires’ club of Swiss watchmaking.

Nicolas Bos, Richemont’s new group CEO, will work closely with Ferla. Bos, formerly the CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels, is recognized for his visionary branding skills, promising a complementary leadership dynamic to drive Cartier’s continued success.

In another key move, Mrs. Catherine Rénier will take over as CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels, replacing Bos. This leadership reshuffle reflects Richemont’s strategy to optimize its top management and ensure continued growth and innovation across its prestigious brands.

In 2024, the Frivole jewellery collection introduces five radiant pieces, including a white gold bracelet adorned with seven flowers, a rose gold Between the Finger ring, and an 8-flower ring that harmonizes rose and white gold. Crafted with meticulous savoir-faire, these creations showcase dazzling diamonds and intricate designs that capture the essence of flourishing flora, reflecting the Maison’s commitment to artistic excellence.

Van Cleef & Arpels says goodbye to 2023 with novelties, some of which have already been revealed throughout the year, here are the main ones

Ludo

Following on from the two rose gold pieces set with precious pieces presented at this year’s Watches and Wonders, the Ludo Secret collection now welcomes a yellow gold watch with a white mother-of-pearl guilloché dial, coupled with an integrated 7-link bracelet powered by a Swiss Quartz movement.

Ballet Précieux

The Van Cleef & Arpels Ballet Précieux brooch collection, launched in 2007, features a new series of ten ballerina brooches that celebrate dance, representing famous romantic and classical works, and which come dressed in gold and precious stones.

Perlée

The Perlée collection, whose signature is the shiny golden beads, comes in different materials and is often accompanied by precious stones. Among the new products are the Perlée 5-row ring, the Perlée watch in yellow gold with a white mother-of-pearl dial, and the Perlée Secret Pendant and Perlée Toi & Moi watches, both in pink gold and diamonds, white mother-of-pearl dial and cover in rubies and diamonds, respectively.

Van Cleef & Arpels Presents New Jewel Watches Within Its Perlée, Alhambra, Ludo And Lady Féerie Collections

It was during the third edition of Watches and Wonders that Van Cleef & Arpels unveiled its latest jewellery and watch creations.

As is the brand’s tradition, the new pieces presented reveal meticulous and concise work that ranges from the choice of rare materials and precious stones to the design of unique pieces, which stand out for their classic and elegant lines.

Below we highlight some of these new pieces that caught our eye.

Perlée

This line, distinguished by rows of gold beads, presents five new creations in traditional round wristwatches.

In the 23mm size, there are four new watches, three in rose gold with a guilloché white mother-of-pearl or a guilloche rose gold and one in white gold with a diamond dial

There is also a single piece in the 30mm size, which comes in a rose gold case and white guilloché mother-of-pearl dial.

All feature Swiss quartz movement and are attached to a leather strap or gold bead bracelet to match the case.

The Perlée Secret Pendant Watch as the name implies is a pendant that comes attached to a gold chain to be placed around the neck, which also comes with rows of gold beads and whose pendant comes with a swivel-mounted lid that, when turned, reveals the time.

There are six pieces, three in yellow gold with diamonds and sapphires, emeralds or sodalite lid, another two in rose gold with diamonds and rubies or rose quartz lid and finally one in white gold with diamonds and blue chalcedony lid.

All feature a white mother-of-pearl dial and are equipped with a Swiss quartz movement inside.

Alhambra

Perhaps the most emblematic collection of the brand, whose pieces are shaped like a four-leaf clover.

Presents a new piece in rose gold with a white mother-of-pearl guilloché dial and is distinguished by being attached to a bracelet with carnelian in the shape of a cloverleaf. Inside come with Swiss quartz movement.

Ludo

Inserted in the secret watch line, it features two pieces in rose gold, which comes attached to an integrated 7-link bracelet that comes with two large studded disks, one with pink sapphires and the other with diamonds, which when pressed towards each other reveal the time through its white mother-of-pearl guilloché dial. Inside they come with Swiss quartz movement.

Lady Féerie

The line, which highlights magical fairies in its pieces, features one piece that is presented in rose gold with diamonds and a dial in white gold, pink sapphires, diamonds, white mother-of-pearl and enamel. Outside it comes in a 33mm case attached to a leather strap and on the inside is equipped with an automatic movement with jumping hours and a retrograde minutes display.
