The intersection of time and artistry takes center stage in Lisbon this winter as Vacheron Constantin unveils a captivating new exhibition, Consciousness of Time. Under the overarching theme of “From Geometry to Artistry,” the event promises to offer an immersive exploration of how structure and creativity coexist, celebrating time in all its universal and personal dimensions.

From November 21st to the end of December, visitors to the Vacheron Constantin boutique on Av. da Liberdade, 192, will witness an exceptional installation crafted by the talented Portuguese artist David Reis Pinto in collaboration with Miguel Sousa and João Carvalho, two architects from Lisbon-based Ambits Studio. Curated by Coletivo 284, the project is a harmonious blend of design disciplines, art, and architecture.

A Fusion of Geometry, Color, and Time

Drawing inspiration from the precision and geometric purity of Vacheron Constantin timepieces, the creative team has transformed the boutique space into an artistic sanctuary. The installation, titled Consciousness of Time, delves into the profound ways we experience and interpret time. As explained by the artists:

“Consciousness of Time is the sum of the moments of our journey, the understanding of the different experiences we have in life. It is the assembly of various levels of emotions, represented by the successive layers of the piece.”

Richemont has announced a major leadership reshuffle for two of its most celebrated watchmaking Maisons, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Vacheron Constantin, with new appointments set to take effect on January 1, 2025.

Jérôme Lambert, a veteran of both Richemont and Jaeger-LeCoultre, will return as CEO of the latter. This marks a homecoming for Lambert, who previously held the same position from 2002 to 2013—a period widely regarded as transformative for the brand. Since then, Lambert has taken on several high-profile roles within Richemont, including CEO of Montblanc, Group CEO, and most recently, Chief Operating Officer. His return is expected to reignite Jaeger-LeCoultre’s legacy of innovation and craftsmanship. Reflecting on this new chapter, Lambert called the opportunity “a privilege and a return to the heart of the heritage that shaped my career.”

At Vacheron Constantin, Laurent Perves will step into the role of CEO, succeeding Louis Ferla, who has been appointed CEO of Cartier. Perves is no stranger to Vacheron Constantin, having served as Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Commercial Officer since joining the Maison in 2016. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Vacheron Constantin’s iconic Patrimony collection, and to celebrate, the Swiss watchmaker has teamed up with French designer Ora Ïto for an exclusive limited edition. Known for his minimalist yet futuristic approach, Ora Ïto has been a partner of Vacheron Constantin since 2019 as part of the brand’s “One of Not Many” initiative. This collaboration is a nod to the rich heritage of the brand, inspired by the reference 6187 from the 1957 collection.

A Design Rooted in Tradition

The new Patrimony model is housed in an elegant polished 18K 3N Yellow Gold case, measuring 40mm in diameter and just 8.55mm in thickness, offering a sleek profile. The smooth bezel, fluted crown with the brand’s Maltese Cross logo, and an open case back complete the timeless design, while sapphire crystal protects both the front and back. The watch is water-resistant to 30m, ensuring it’s ready for modern-day wear while staying true to its vintage-inspired roots.

A Minimalist Masterpiece

The domed, monochromatic dial in matching yellow gold is a study of minimalism. Concentric circles form a subtle yet elegant motif, complemented by 18K gold hour markers and three centre hands. A discreet minute dot track runs around the perimeter, and a date window at 6 o’clock features burgundy Arabic numerals, matching the leather strap. The Vacheron Constantin logo sits proudly at noon, adding the final touch of heritage to the dial.

A Mechanical Marvel

The heart of the watch is the Manufacture 2450 Q6 movement, which can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back. This automatic movement is adorned with the signature Côtes de Genève decoration on the bridges and features a skeletonized 18K gold rotor in the shape of the Maltese Cross. With 196 components and a thickness of just 3.60mm, the movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (Vph) and provides a 40-hour power reserve, embodying both precision and reliability.

Burgundy Calfskin Strap with a Vintage Touch

Completing the package is a burgundy calfskin leather strap, embossed with graphic motifs from the 70s, secured by an 18K yellow gold pin buckle. This rich colour ties the whole design together and evokes a sense of vintage flair, perfectly complementing the watch’s mid-century inspiration.

Our Opinion

The design of this limited edition is pure elegance, and the vintage-inspired monochromatic gold dial is simply stunning. The case’s 40mm size, however, feels slightly oversized for what is meant to be a classic watch. A more traditional size between 34mm and 38mm might have appealed to collectors with smaller wrists. Additionally, while the automatic movement is undoubtedly well-crafted, we believe a hand-wound movement would have been a more fitting tribute to the original model from 1957.

Conclusion

Despite its modern upgrades, the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony 20th Anniversary limited edition stays true to the essence of its 1957 predecessor. Limited to just 100 pieces, this watch is a collector’s dream, blending modern craftsmanship with the timeless allure of the past.

The Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix introduced in 2018 is one of those watches that doesn’t dazzle but fulfils its mission and exudes class. The watch was inspired by the 1956 ref. 6073 features a contemporary design with a vintage touch. Initially launched with basic time and date functions, the collection has grown over the past six years and has included a handful of different models.

Today, the Maltese Cross brand is bringing the watch back to its roots by bringing a new Fiftysix Self-Winding in rose gold with a black dial.

Housed in a round polished rose gold case measuring 40mm by 9.60mm, features lugs inspired by the Maltese Cross, smooth bezel, box-shaped sapphire crystal, recessed crown at 3 o’clock, open case back and 30m splash resistance.

The sector black dial is adorned with gold pencil hands in the centre filled with Super-LumiNova that also fill the indexes, embossed gold Maltese Cross followed by the brand’s inscriptions in white and a thin white dashed ring that delimits the area and intersects a date window, applied gold Arabic numerals and baton hour markers, and lastly a minute/second track along the edges.

The sapphire crystal of the case back displays the Calibre 1326 automatic movement made by Horlogère ValFleurier and assembled by the brand from 142 components and 25 jewels, which reaches 28,800 Vph and offers up to 2 days of power reserve. The highlight is the skeletonized gold rotor in the shape of the Maltese Cross.

The watch is paired with an anthracite nubuck calfskin leather strap with a rose gold buckle sculpted with the brand’s logo and comes with a price tag of €28,000.

Introducing The Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Manual Winding 39MM And Moon Phase Retrograde Date

One of the novelties presented at the Watches And Wonders by Vacheron Constantin was the new Patrimony, which arrived in the new 39mm size, with a new look on the dial and in a thinner case.

There are three new entries in the collection and they are the Patrimony Manual-Winding which comes in two variants, one in 18k white gold and the other in 18k pink gold, and finally the Patrimony Moon Phase Retrograde Date which comes in an 18k white gold case, in a wider case measuring 42.50mm by 9.70mm.

The three new Patrimony all feature an aged silver dial, with gold hour markers applied in the shape of triangles at 3-6-9-12 hours and in the shape of a baton at the remaining hours and dots on the minute track. The two new 39mm versions add just two centre pencil hands while the wider 42.50mm version beyond the hands adds a retrograde date on the upper half of the dial and an aperture with the phases of the moon at 6 o’clock.

Inside, the new Patrimony Manual-Winding 39mm comes equipped with the Caliber 1440, just 2.60mm thick, which runs at 28,800 Vph and offers up to 42 hours of power reserve, which is protected by a solid gold case back. In the Patrimony Moon Phase Retrograde Date we find the Caliber 2460 R31L automatic movement with 275 components that works at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers up to 40 hours of power reserve.

The watches come attached to an alligator leather strap in olive green for both versions in 18k white gold and in light blue for the 18k pink gold version with a pin buckle in the same material as the case and in the shape of the Maltese cross , with prices to be provided on request.
