A Closer Look At The New Ressence Type 3 Marc Newson Edition
Ressence expands its Type 3 series with a new limited edition developed in collaboration with industrial designer Marc Newson. The Type 3 Marc Newson, or Type 3 MN, integrates Newson’s approach to form and ergonomics with Ressence’s well-known oil-filled display system.

Case and Construction
The Type 3 MN is built around a 45 mm Grade 5 titanium case that is divided into two sealed compartments. The upper chamber holds 4.15 ml of oil, which creates the brand’s signature visual effect where the indications appear to be positioned directly beneath the sapphire crystal. Below it, the second chamber contains the mechanical movement. A double-domed sapphire crystal covers the entire upper surface of the watch and visually blends into the caseband, creating a continuous profile. The watch measures 15mm thick, weighs 95 grams, and uses a lug-less configuration to create a more compact wearing experience than its dimensions suggest. Ressence equips the model with a pressure-compensating bellows system designed to stabilise the volume of oil in response to temperature changes.

ROCS 3.6 Display System
The display uses Ressence’s ROCS 3.6 (Ressence Orbital Convex System), which replaces traditional hands with a set of convex titanium discs that rotate to indicate the time and calendar information. For this edition, the discs are finished with DLC and PVD coatings, then engraved and filled with Grade A Super-LumiNova in blue and green to ensure visibility in low-light conditions. The indications include hours, minutes, a running seconds display that completes a rotation every 180 seconds, as well as the day, date, and an oil-temperature indicator. The oil in the upper chamber eliminates light refraction, resulting in a display that appears to float at the surface of the crystal.
Colour and Graphic Design
Marc Newson selected the colour scheme for the Type 3 MN. The palette brings together celadon green, grey, black, and small yellow accents, forming a layout that maintains clarity across the various indications while reflecting Newson’s preference for controlled tones and precise visual balance.

Movement and Functionality
Powering the Type 3 MN is a customised automatic ETA 2824 base calibre positioned in the lower chamber. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of 36 hours. The ROCS module in the upper chamber is not mechanically connected to the movement; instead, both elements work together using magnetic transmission across the two compartments. As with other Ressence watches, the Type 3 MN is designed without a crown. All adjustments for time, day, and date, as well as winding, are handled through the rotating caseback.

The Ressence Type 3 Marc Newson is limited to 80 pieces. It will be available from December 4, 2025, through the brand’s e-shop and selected authorised retailers worldwide. The retail price is set at CHF 46,000 excluding taxes.
