Casio Goes Mechanical: Inside The New Edifice EFK-100 Series
Casio has officially entered a new era with the launch of its first-ever mechanical wristwatch: the Edifice EFK-100. Known globally for its innovation in quartz timekeeping, Casio now makes a notable move into the world of mechanical watchmaking through its Edifice line—a series historically linked to motorsport-inspired design and performance.

The Edifice EFK-100 collection debuts with five distinct references: EFK-100XPB-1AJF, EFK-100CD-1AJF, EFK-100D-2AJF, EFK-100D-3AJF, and EFK-100D-7AJF. Each model is built around a core of solid materials and classic proportions. Four of the watches feature stainless steel cases measuring 39 mm in diameter, 43.50 mm from lug to lug, and 12.50 mm thick, providing a balanced wrist presence suitable for everyday wear. These models are water-resistant to 100 meters and offer basic magnetic resistance, aligning with JIS Class 1 standards. Each of the stainless steel versions is paired with a matching bracelet and weighs approximately 148 grams.

The fifth model in the lineup, the EFK-100XPB-1AJF, stands out thanks to its lightweight construction. It features a case made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) combined with stainless steel, measuring 40 mm by 45 mm by 12.50 mm. The watch is fitted with a resin band secured by a folding clasp and weighs just 87 grams, making it the most lightweight and sport-oriented variant in the series.

A sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective coating protects the dial across all models—a detail that enhances both clarity and scratch resistance. As for the dials, the EFK-100CD-1AJF distinguishes itself with a genuine forged carbon dial, while the remaining three steel variants—EFK-100D-2AJF (blue), EFK-100D-3AJF (green), and EFK-100D-7AJF (white)—feature textured dials created using electroforming techniques to simulate the visual depth of forged carbon.

A closer look reveals refined design touches that elevate the overall presentation. The applied indices and multi-faceted hands reflect a level of attention typically found in higher-priced timepieces. The cases themselves are finely finished, blending brushed and polished surfaces for a dynamic aesthetic. The steel bracelet, with its sleek integration into the case, adds further sophistication through alternating surface treatments, including polished highlights on the edges and interior angles of the links.

At the heart of each EFK-100 model beats a mechanical movement: the automatic 5755 based on the Seiko NH35 A caliber. While Casio has not officially disclosed the movement’s name in its marketing, the rotor—visible through the transparent caseback—reveals its identity. This reliable movement operates at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour), offers hacking seconds for precise time-setting, includes a date display, and features 24 jewels. The power reserve is approximately 40 hours. While not exceptional by modern standards, the NH35 is widely respected for its dependability and ease of service. Casio claims a daily accuracy range between -35 and +45 seconds.

The Casio Edifice EFK-100 models are priced to remain accessible. The entry-level versions—EFK-100YD-7A (white), EFK-100YD-3A (green), and EFK-100YD-2A (blue)—are priced at JPY 49,500 (about USD 340). The model with a forged carbon dial, the EFK-100YCD-1AJF, is set at JPY 55,000 (approximately USD 379), while the carbon-case model, EFK-100XPB-1AJF, sits at the top of the range with a retail price of JPY 74,800 (around USD 515). The collection will be available beginning August 2025, depending on the model.

The Edifice EFK-100 series marks a significant milestone for Casio. While it may not feature a proprietary movement or groundbreaking complication, it introduces mechanical timekeeping to a brand celebrated for its technological prowess and durable design. With this release, Casio offers a new option for enthusiasts and casual wearers alike: a mechanical watch that blends functionality, attention to detail, and an approachable price point.
