Celebrating 25 Years of Gumball 3000 With Ulysse Nardin’s Exclusive Timepiece

The Gumball 3000 rally has always been about much more than just fast cars. This year’s event, spanning from September 14 to 22, is no exception as it weaves through Asia, connecting Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and Singapore over 3000 miles. With a blend of exotic cars, celebrities, fashion, and music, the rally is as much a cultural festival as it is a motorsport event.

A notable highlight this year is the official watch collaboration with Ulysse Nardin, the *Freak X Gumball 3000*. The watch, like the event itself, is bold and unique. Featuring Gumball’s iconic orange and black colours, the timepiece boasts a 43mm wide and 49.5mm long DLC-coated titanium case with Carbonium sides and is remarkably thin at just 10mm in height. The sapphire glass and fluted crown add to the high-end design, while the open case back showcases the event’s orange logo.

The dial of the watch is industrial in style, featuring a black DLC-coated finish, luminescent white Super-LumiNova markers, and striking orange-filled asymmetric hand tips. The in-house automatic movement, UN-230, powers the watch, offering a 3-day power reserve with its 206 components and silicon balance spring.

The Ulysse Nardin Freak X Gumball 3000 is paired with an eye-catching orange Delugs Rubber CTS strap, complementing the rally’s signature colours. The strap is secured with a black DLC titanium folding clasp, adding to the watch’s durability and sporty elegance.

Limited to just 150 pieces, this exclusive watch is initially available only to participants of the rally, with the option to engrave their car number on the watch flank. While the price remains undisclosed, this special edition timepiece is sure to be a coveted item among the race’s elite.

Introducing The Ulysse Nardin Diver Net OPS & Diver X Skeleton OPS

Ulysse Nardin (UN), which a few years ago embraced the environmental cause for a more sustainable world, brings us two new dive watches following this commitment.

The new UN Diver Net OPS and UN Diver X Skeleton OPS in addition to the materials used, come dressed with a camouflage insert bezel which, together with the dark tone of the materials used, gives them a stealthy military appearance, which over the years has been gaining fans.

Both watches embrace a robust 44mm wide case with the Diver Net OPS made almost entirely from recycled material, with the case and movement container made from 95% recycled stainless steel, sides and case back made from 60% Nylo and 40% Carbonium, and bezel from 100% Carbonium. While the Diver X Skeleton OPS instead of steel comes with a black DLC titanium case with a sandblasted and satin finish and Carbonium bezel insert.

The watches have different thicknesses with the first coming with a case height of 14.81mm and the second a little fatter with 15.70mm, the same also happens about water resistance with the Diver Net OPS coming with 300m and the Diver X Skeleton OPS coming with a lower rating of 200m. All other exterior elements are shared almost entirely between the two watches, such as the unidirectional diving bezel, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown at 3 o’clock with the brand’s signature and screwed sapphire case back.

The UN Diver Net OPS comes with a sandblasted green dial engraved with the “X” signature, applied wide hour markers and hands all filled with beige Super-LumiNova, a small seconds at 6 o’clock that also incorporates a date window and a power reserve indicator by noon. Inside operates the In-house Caliber UN-118 automatic movement with DiamondSil escapement and Silicon Hairspring, which runs 28,800 Vph and offers up to 60h of power reserve.

Undoubtedly the UN Diver X Skeleton OPS comes with an open-worked dial, with the same “X” signature but here in black tones following the shades of other elements such as the suspended flange that holds the hour markers and centre hands, which are all filled with the same beige luminescent material of the Diver Net OPS. Powered by Caliber UN-372 automatic movement, which reaches 21,600 Vph and offers up to 3 days of power reserve.

The watches come attached to a khaki green fabric strap also made partially of upcycled fishing nets with velcro closure or a green rubber strap with a folding clasp made of the case material. They arrive with a price tag of CHF 12,600 and CHF 26,100 for the Diver Net Ops and the Diver X Skeleton OPS respectively.

Now that Dubai Watch Week 2023 is over, we offer a quick look at some novelties that stood out to us the most and that we hadn’t yet had the opportunity to deal with properly, and without any order criteria, let’s look at them.

Ulysse Nardin The Freak One OPS

First launched in 2001 and chosen as the winner of the Iconic Watch prize at this year’s GPHG awards, the watch maintains its futuristic characteristics without a crown and with a movement that also works as hands.

Ulysse Nardin has now launched a stealth version dressing the watch with a titanium case and a carbon bezel, while the dial is dressed in khaki green whose tone also extends to its rubber strap.

Doxa Sub 300β Seddiqi Limited Edition

Doxa, in partnership with the founders of the event, Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons launches a new variant of its Sub 300β line, in a limited edition of 50 pieces, an exclusive to Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons.

The watch maintains all the technical and aesthetic characteristics of its peers, with the exception of the dial which now comes in blue mother-of-pearl matching the bezel insert and attached to a white rubber strap.

H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Small Seconds Micro-Rotor

The new variant of the Streamliner Small Seconds comes with some very interesting new features, starting with the appealing blue enamel-grained dial, which also comes with a gradient effect, the tone of which intensifies from the centre to the outside.

Its dimensions have also been reduced, now embracing a case measuring 39mm in diameter and 10.90mm thick, largely thanks to its new internal movement, the In-house HMC 500 micro-rotor, which operates at a frequency of 3 Hz and offers 3 days of power reserve.

Frederique Constant Highlife Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar & The Avener Editions

There are three Frederique Constant releases, and starting with the ‘simple’ ones, these are two limited editions of 432 pieces each launched in partnership with the French musician and producer Avener, with the basic time and date functions, which stand out for their its dials that try to recreate the sound waves of the studio monitors in blue in the steel version and in grey in the version with a case with black sandblasted DLC coating.

The other novelty is also a limited edition of 35 pieces of the Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar that comes in a 41mm rose gold case and with a blue dial.

Ressence Type 1° DX3

It is the epilogue of the three collaborations with Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons that appears once again in the form of a limited edition of 35 pieces.

The new Type 1º DX3, like previous editions, comes with the same Arabic mosaic pattern on the dial that now receives a thin layer of rose gold, which is filled with Super-LumiNova, which glows green in the dark.

On the outside is the 42.70 mm titanium case that shapes the watch and houses the modified ETA 2892 automatic movement that comes with a 36-hour power reserve.

Oris Divers Sixty-Five Date Cotton Candy Sepia

For the first time, the Cotton Candy collection comes with a black dial and a date window with a background in the same colour.

Like the other elements of the collection, it embraces a 38mm case that comes in copper and matches the hour markers and hands on the dial filled with Super-LumiNova beige.

Inside there is nothing new operating the Caliber 733 based on the Sellita SW200-1 which offers up to 41h of power reserve.

The watch that joins the permanent collection can be purchased with a copper bracelet or a black rubber strap.

Ulysse Nardin Presents “The Ocean Race Diver Chronograph”

This year marks the 50th anniversary of “The Ocean Race”, which began as “Whitbread Round The World Race” and later became “The Volvo Ocean Race”, a competition that crosses 9 cities in the world for 6 months and takes about 1 year to prepare.

Ulysse Nardin who, in addition to being The Race’s Official Timekeeper of the race, is intrinsically linked to the event for a greater purpose, the commitment to sustainability through conservation and preservation of the oceans. In this sense of mission, Ulysse Nardin is also one of the sponsors of the “11th Hour Racing Team”, one of the participants in the race, which shares the same values and purpose for the defence of the oceans.

To mark the date, the Swiss watchmaker presents a limited edition chronograph “The Ocean Race Diver Chronograph” of 100 pieces.

The new chronograph which wears a 44mm titanium case with black DLC with a satin finish, comes with a unidirectional concave bezel in Carbonium, a carbon composite made from recycled fishing nets and aeroplane fuselage offcuts, a fluted crown and two pushers, with the start/stop to come with a blue ring, sapphire glass on the front and on the case back, the latter engraved with the number 50 in the centre and with the zero to be replaced by the race logo, and finally, 300m of water resistance.

The black sandblasted dial features three sub-dials at 3-6-9 o’clock representing a 30-minute counter, a 12-hour counter and running seconds respectively, a blue centre chronograph seconds hand that combine with the two Chrono pointers, white applied hour markers and pencil hands all filled with luminescent material and a round date window at 6 o’clock.

Inside operates the 318-component Caliber UN-150 automatic movement, which runs at 28,800 Vph and offers two days of power reserve.

Lastly, the chronograph is attached to a black rubber strap with black ceramic hardware and can be had for €16,000.
