Introducing the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Enamel Hokusai ‘Amida Falls’
The new Reverso Tribute Enamel Hokusai «Amida Falls» completes a trilogy of Reverso Tribute Enamel watches that pay homage to the 19th-century Japanese master Katsushika Hokusai.
This is a limited edition of 10 pieces, initially offered only in Japan. It continues and perpetuates the eastern and western artistic traditions that the Grande Maison has embraced throughout its history.
The case back is adorned with a detailed Grand Feu enamel reproduction of the woodblock printing of Hokusai’s The Amida Falls in the Far Reaches of the Kisokaidō Road (Kisoji no oku Amida-ga-taki), which translates the fascination of the artist for the power of cascading water and monumental landforms and it is combined with a green Grand Feu enamel dial.
To reproduce the woodblock printing of the work “Amida Falls” on a surface of only three square centimetres (a little more than a tenth of the size of the original) required meticulous work by the master craftsmen of Jaeger-LeCoultre through many steps and representing a total of 70 hours of work over many weeks, including a total of between 12 to 15 separate firings at 800 degrees Celsius.
The diamond pattern in guilloché – whose texture is enhanced by the Grand Feu enamel in a shade of green – is executed by hand, using a centenary lathe, each of the 60 lines that make up the pattern requires three passes of the lathe, in a total of 600 passes, a process that alone takes about four hours, followed by the application of at least six coats of enamel each requiring a separate firing, in all over a week. Faceted hour indexes and Dauphine’s hands are applied to the dial, in addition to the brand’s logo at 12 o’clock.
The watch on the outside is set in a white gold case with sapphire crystal and 3 meters of water resistance and is offered on a black alligator leather strap.
Inside, the Caliber Jaeger-LeCoultre 822/2 manual movement operates at 21,600 Vph and offers up to 42 hours of power reserve.
