Mido Expands Its Commander Collection With The New Datoday
First introduced in 1959, the Commander collection has long been one of the pillars of Mido’s catalog. Known for its timeless design and reliable mechanics, the line continues to evolve while maintaining the elegant character that has defined it for decades. The latest addition to the family is the new Commander Datoday, a model that combines classic aesthetics with practical everyday functionality.
A Classic Design in a Modern Format
The new Commander Datoday is presented in a stainless steel case measuring 40 mm in diameter and 10.70 mm in thickness, offering balanced proportions that make it suitable for both formal and casual settings. The design stays true to the refined spirit of the Commander collection, featuring short lugs and a slim bezel that maximize the dial opening while preserving a sleek profile on the wrist.

The case combines brushed and polished finishes, creating subtle contrasts that enhance the watch’s overall elegance. Water resistance is rated at 50 meters, which is sufficient for daily wear and light exposure to water.
Sunray Dials with Day-Date Function
One of the defining elements of the Commander Datoday is its dial design. Each model features a sunray-brushed central dial, surrounded by an angled inner flange that visually frames the applied hour markers and adds depth to the overall layout.

The applied indexes and hands are polished and feature black detailing along with luminous inserts, ensuring good legibility in different lighting conditions. Practicality is further enhanced by the day-date display positioned at 3 o’clock, presented in a framed window that integrates neatly into the dial design.

Mido introduces four versions of the Commander Datoday. Three of them come in stainless steel cases paired with dark blue, silvery-white, or anthracite grey dials, offering classic and versatile aesthetics. The fourth version is slightly bolder, featuring a rose gold PVD-coated case combined with a dark green dial, adding a warmer and more distinctive look to the collection.
Powered by the Caliber 80 Automatic Movement
Inside the Commander Datoday is the Mido Caliber 80, an automatic movement widely used within the Swatch Group and derived from the well-known ETA architecture. The movement operates at a frequency of 3 Hz, or 21,600 vibrations per hour, and provides an extended power reserve of up to 80 hours, allowing the watch to continue running for more than three days without being worn.

Another notable feature of the movement is the Nivachron balance spring, which improves resistance to magnetic fields and contributes to more stable long-term performance.

Bracelet and Availability
The watch is fitted with a three-link stainless steel bracelet secured by a folding clasp. Mido also equips the bracelet with quick-release spring bars, allowing the wearer to change straps easily without the need for additional tools.
The new Commander Datoday joins the brand’s permanent collection and is now available through authorized retailers. Pricing starts at € 990 for the stainless steel versions, while the rose gold PVD-coated model is priced at € 1,150.
With its balanced proportions, practical day-date complication, and robust automatic movement, the new Commander Datoday continues the legacy of one of Mido’s most enduring collections.
