Mido Brings Back The Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 In Bold Black
Four years ago, Mido revived the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 through a limited carbon edition that didn’t have time to heat the shelves, now the Swiss watch brand brings back the historic dive watch in another limited edition that now comes with a black PVD case.
Despite its monochromatic exterior, the diving watch stands out for its colourful dial with four decompression scales widely used in the 60s, whose main purpose was to calculate the diver’s speed of arrival at the surface without risking his health.
The watch wears a 40.50mm diameter by 13.40mm thick stainless steel case that features a black PVD and a glossy finish, 60-minute unidirectional bezel, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown at 3 o’clock with guards, screwed solid case back with an engraved starfish and 200m water resistance.
The black background dial comes with four coloured rings, each representing different underwater depths in blue, pink, green and yellow, which combined with the time spent underwater can determine, using the respective ruler, the decompression time needed to reach the surface safely. We can also find a black centre with Arabic numerals for the hours, tip-lumed markers for the minutes near the edges, three centre hands and a date window next to the crown.
Mido is one of the brands that are part of the Swatch Group, embracing its best-known automatic movement Caliber 80 based on the ETA C07.621 reaching 21,600 Vph and offering up to 80 hours of power reserve.
In addition to the Mesh steel bracelet with a black PVD, the watch also comes with two additional straps, one black leather and the other light blue Tropic rubber, which come with a price of CHF 1,350 limited to 1,961 units.
