Longines Revives A High-Beat Legend: The Ultra-Chron Classic
Longines brings back one of its most historically significant models with the launch of the Ultra-Chron Classic, a faithful re-edition inspired by the original Ultra-Chron reference 7827 from 1967. This new model celebrates the brand’s pioneering role in high-frequency watchmaking, combining vintage design with modern precision and reliability.
A Heritage of Precision
Longines’ association with high-frequency movements dates back more than a century. The brand patented a 1/10th of a second stopwatch as early as 1910 and developed a 50Hz chronograph in 1916. In 1967, the introduction of the first Ultra-Chron marked a major milestone — it was one of the earliest high-beat automatic watches produced on a large scale, achieving an impressive accuracy of ±2 seconds per day.

The new Ultra-Chron Classic pays tribute to that technical heritage while adapting to contemporary watchmaking standards.
Design True to the 1960s Original
Faithful to the aesthetic of the 1960s, the Ultra-Chron Classic features a clean and elegant dial with polished indices, applied Longines logos, and a distinctive all-silver color palette. A domed sapphire crystal evokes the look of the original acrylic glass but offers modern scratch resistance and clarity. The watch maintains a slim profile of 10.50 mm, enhancing its refined vintage proportions.

Longines offers the model in two case sizes—37 mm and 40 mm—crafted in stainless steel, ensuring a versatile fit for both purists and modern collectors. The watch is available with either a black alligator leather strap with a pin buckle or a five-link stainless steel bracelet equipped with a folding clasp and micro-adjustment system for added comfort.
High-Beat Performance and Certified Precision
Inside the Ultra-Chron Classic beats the Calibre L836.6, a self-winding high-frequency movement that operates at 36,000 vibrations per hour (5Hz). This ensures smoother seconds-hand motion and greater stability over time. The movement is equipped with a silicon balance spring, providing enhanced resistance to magnetism and temperature variations, and delivers a power reserve of 52 hours.

Each Ultra-Chron Classic is chronometer-certified by TIMELAB, an independent Swiss testing laboratory based in Geneva. Unlike COSC certification, which evaluates only the movement, TIMELAB tests the accuracy of the entire watch according to ISO 3159 standards. It also subjects the timepiece to assessments for water resistance and magnetic protection, with tighter tolerances of ±8.57 seconds per day.
A Modern Classic Rooted in Innovation
The Ultra-Chron Classic is more than a vintage revival—it’s a celebration of Longines’ role as a pioneer in precision watchmaking. With its faithful 1960s-inspired design, advanced movement technology, and exceptional chronometric performance, it bridges the gap between heritage and modernity.
