Longines Unveils The Ultra-Chron Carbon: Precision In A Cutting-Edge Material

The Longines Ultra-Chron returns in a bold new iteration for 2025, marking a significant evolution in the brand’s storied dive watch lineup. First reintroduced in 2022 as a revival of the 1968 reference 7970, the Ultra-Chron now debuts with a cutting-edge carbon case, a material never before used by Longines. This innovative approach combines the watch’s heritage with modern performance and lightweight durability.

The new Ultra-Chron Carbon retains the robust proportions of its stainless steel predecessor, boasting a 43mm diameter, a thickness of 14mm, and a lug-to-lug measurement of 49mm. Slightly thicker by just 0.10mm compared to the steel version, the watch maintains a sleek profile while offering rugged performance. It features a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, a titanium screw-down crown and case back, and a fixed bezel with an aluminum insert showcasing a grey diving scale. With 300 meters of water resistance, this dive watch is built to withstand the toughest underwater adventures.

Its sandblasted anthracite dial delivers a refined yet functional aesthetic, enhanced by applied dark indexes and hands filled with Super-LumiNova for excellent legibility in low-light conditions. A minute and second track adorns the outer edge, while the Longines logo and Ultra-Chron branding are prominently displayed at 12 and 6 o’clock, respectively, adding to the dial’s balanced design.

Powering the Ultra-Chron Carbon is the automatic Caliber L836.6, a Chronometer-certified movement by Timelab. Featuring a silicon balance spring, this high-frequency caliber operates at 36,000 vibrations per hour and provides a reliable 52-hour power reserve. With 25 jewels and exceptional precision, it mirrors the performance standards of the steel model.

Completing the package is a black fabric strap with a titanium buckle, contributing to the watch’s impressively lightweight build of under 80 grams. This striking timepiece, designed for modern divers and collectors alike, will be available in January 2025 at a price of USD 4,900, blending heritage, innovation, and style into a single remarkable creation.

Longines is gearing up for the Alpine World Ski Championships in Saalbach, Austria, by unveiling the exclusive Longines Conquest Chrono Ski. This limited edition pays homage to Longines’ longstanding partnership with the International Ski Federation (FIS), boasting only 2,025 pieces and following the style of the Conquest Chrono permanent collection. This release combines precise functionality with a rugged aesthetic, creating a collector’s piece that not only marks the iconic ski event but also delivers a high-performance experience.

The Longines Conquest Chrono Ski limited edition comes in a polished and satin-finished stainless steel case, sized 42mm in diameter, with a 14.30mm thickness and a 50.20mm length. A key feature is its tachymeter bezel, adorned with a black ceramic insert to resist scratches and enhance durability. The case has a screw-down solid case back engraved with the FIS World Championships 2025 logo and inscriptions dedicated to Saalbach 2025, while water resistance reaches 100m, ensuring resilience in harsh winter conditions. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the fluted crown, positioned at 3 o’clock, is guarded by two pushers for easy handling, even while wearing gloves.

The dial combines both style and functionality, sporting an anthracite centre with three black snailed sub-dials, maintaining the tri-compax layout. These registers display running seconds, a 12-hour counter, and a 30-minute chronograph at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions respectively. The minute and seconds track is encircled by a black chapter ring for optimal legibility. Super-LumiNova applied to the hour markers and Dauphine hands provides clear readability in low light, and stopwatch hands tipped in red add visual appeal. Longines’ embossed logo at the top of the dial underscores the brand’s prestige.

At the heart of the Longines Conquest Chrono Ski lies the Caliber L898.5 automatic movement, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. This high-performance movement, equipped with a silicon balance spring, delivers a robust 59-hour power reserve, enhancing reliability and precision.
