Yema Superman Swiss Edition: A New Era With Sellita Movements
Yema has officially introduced the new Superman Swiss Edition, marking a strategic shift in the brand’s approach to movement selection. Moving away from its proprietary Yema2000 and Yema3000 calibres, the French watchmaker now equips its Superman collection with the reliable and cost-effective Sellita Swiss mechanical movements. This transition allows Yema to reserve its high-end French-manufactured calibres, the CMM.10 automatic and CMM.20 micro-rotor, for its most sophisticated timepieces.
The latest Superman models draw inspiration from the vintage reference 53.00.16 from the 1970s, closely resembling the original design while offering modern refinements. Available in two case sizes of 39mm and 41mm, these watches come in four distinct dial colors: black, white, beige, and blue. The blue variant is the only one to feature a matching bezel, while the remaining three come with the classic black bezel.
Constructed from polished stainless steel, the case measures 13.90mm in thickness, with a lug-to-lug length of either 47mm or 49mm depending on the case size. The watch features a domed sapphire crystal, a unidirectional bezel with Yema’s patented lock system, and an aluminum insert with a diving scale and a luminous pip at 12 o’clock. Additional details include drilled lugs, a screw-down crown adorned with the Yema logo and flanked by crown guards, and a solid case back embossed with the brand’s coat of arms. The Superman Swiss Edition maintains an impressive 300-meter water resistance, reinforcing its status as a robust dive watch.
The dial layout remains faithful to the vintage aesthetic, featuring printed indexes with an inverted triangle at 12 o’clock, stick-shaped markers at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock, and round markers for the remaining positions. The hands and indices are coated with luminescent material to enhance readability in low-light conditions. A date window positioned at 3 o’clock with a white background complements the overall design.
Powering the new Superman Swiss Edition is the Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, a 26-jewel calibre that operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a power reserve of up to 38 hours. This movement is known for its reliability and ease of servicing, making it a solid choice for an everyday mechanical timepiece.
Completing the package is a five-link stainless steel Jubilee-style bracelet, fitted with a Yema signature folding clasp for a secure and comfortable fit.
