As part of its 270th anniversary celebrations, Vacheron Constantin has introduced a landmark addition to its iconic Overseas collection: the Overseas Grand Complication Openface. This model not only marks a significant technical milestone for the Maison but also introduces a new level of complexity to the sports-luxury watch segment by incorporating a minute repeater—a first for the Overseas line.

A High-Complication Debut in Titanium

The Overseas Grand Complication Openface is housed in a 44.50 mm Grade 5 titanium case, paired with a matching titanium bracelet. Despite its substantial dimensions, the case maintains a remarkably slim profile at just 13.10 mm thick. This is made possible by the ultra-thin construction of the movement, which measures only 7.90 mm.

The signature “Openface” dial architecture is defined by its transparent sapphire dial, revealing the complex mechanism underneath. Enhancing the visual harmony, the dial features a blue minute rehaut, which matches the tourbillon frame and the rings surrounding the three sub-dials—creating a striking contrast and a refined color theme across the display. The layout allows for a legible and elegant presentation of a perpetual calendar and additional indicators without obstructing the movement view.

A Showcase of Horological Complexity

At the core of this timepiece is the Caliber 2755 TMR QP, one of Vacheron Constantin’s most complex in-house movements. Comprising 602 components, it offers a combination of high complications: a perpetual calendar, a tourbillon, a minute repeater, and a power reserve indicator visible on the caseback. The hand-wound movement operates at a frequency of 2.5 Hz and provides a 58-hour power reserve. As with other haute horlogerie offerings from Vacheron, it bears the prestigious Hallmark of Geneva.

Decoratively, the movement features darkened bridges finished with Côtes de Genève stripes, creating a modern, technical aesthetic. These are contrasted by rhodium-plated wheels, adding depth and dynamism to the movement’s visual appeal, which can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback.

Notably, this is the first time a minute repeater has been integrated into the Overseas line. The engineering required to ensure functionality and 30-meter water resistance—despite the presence of the repeater’s activation slide—necessitated a full reworking of the traditional mechanism, a development effort that extended over a year.

Adaptable Wearability

The titanium bracelet is equipped with the brand’s quick-release system and is complemented by two additional straps: one in blue rubber and another in blue alligator leather. This modularity enhances wearability and underscores the piece’s positioning within the versatile Overseas collection, even at the highest level of complication.
