Vacheron Constantin And Louvre Showcase Restoration Art At Homo Faber 2024
The third edition of Homo Faber, held from 1 to 30 September at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice, is a prestigious event celebrating craftsmanship under the theme “The Journey of Life.” A highlight of this edition is Vacheron Constantin’s collaboration with the Louvre Museum, showcasing the art of restoration. This partnership emphasizes the mastery of Vacheron Constantin’s artisans in preserving and restoring timepieces, aligning with Maison’s commitment to maintaining every watch it has produced since 1755.
Vacheron Constantin’s restoration expertise is on full display at Homo Faber 2023, offering visitors an inside look at how its watchmakers meticulously restore antique watches while preserving their original characteristics. The Maison’s workshops can even recreate original components when needed, using vintage machines and technical data stored in its extensive Heritage archives.
Since 2019, Vacheron Constantin and the Louvre Museum have partnered to promote cultural and artistic heritage. At this year’s Homo Faber exhibition, the Louvre’s cabinetmaking workshop presents the restoration of a rare mahogany-veneered oak display case from 1822, originally crafted by the renowned cabinetmaker Jacob-Desmalter. This piece, used to display royal collections and Marie-Antoinette’s jewels, is a testament to the Louvre’s dedication to art conservation.
Vacheron Constantin’s booth also features several historic timepieces, including a 1985 Lady Kalla jewellery watch, a 1908 pocket watch, and three American 1921 watches. These watches exemplify Maison’s dedication to craftsmanship, with one of the American 1921 models meticulously reproduced in 2021 using period tools and techniques.
Homo Faber 2023 is a must-see event for those interested in fine craftsmanship, cultural heritage, and the art of restoration, offering a unique opportunity to witness the collaboration between Vacheron Constantin and the Louvre Museum in preserving timeless creations.
