Urwerk UR-100V Lightspeed Ceramic Introduces A New Composite Case
Urwerk approaches new releases less as incremental updates and more as opportunities to refine ideas through engineering. With the UR-100V Lightspeed Ceramic, the brand revisits one of its most recognizable displays and places it inside a newly developed case material, shifting the focus toward durability, lightness, and visual contrast rather than mechanical reinvention.

Case and Wearability
The UR-100V Lightspeed Ceramic is housed in a case measuring 43 mm in width, 51.73 mm in length, and 14.55 mm in thickness, consistent with previous UR-100 executions. The defining feature is the case construction itself. Instead of conventional ceramic, Urwerk employs a fiber-reinforced ceramic composite designed to address ceramic’s inherent fragility.

This composite integrates glass and carbon fibers within a polymer matrix, resulting in improved resistance to impact while maintaining a lightweight profile. Aesthetically, the material presents a bright white base intersected by silver-toned fibers, creating a layered, almost technical appearance that differs noticeably from traditional ceramic or metal cases.
The watch is fitted with a screw-down crown and offers 50 meters of water resistance, reinforcing its usability. Two textured rubber straps—black and white—are supplied, each paired with a deployant clasp.
Dial and Display Architecture
The dial remains immediately recognizable as an Urwerk creation. A matte black surface serves as the backdrop for the brand’s satellite hour display, which works in conjunction with a retrograde minute scale positioned along the upper arc of the dial. The hour satellites rotate across the minute track before snapping back to begin a new cycle.

A central indicator introduces the model’s astronomical reference. Finished in blue and green, this hand points toward markings that represent the time required for light to travel from the Sun to each of the eight planets. The indicator completes a full rotation every three hours and disappears beneath the minute track for part of its journey, reinforcing the layered construction of the display.
Movement: Caliber UR12.02
The watch is powered by the automatic Caliber UR12.02, visible through a sapphire case back framed by Grade 5 titanium. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the movement delivers a 48-hour power reserve.

Finishing reflects Urwerk’s industrial yet high-end approach, with techniques such as circular graining, satin brushing, sandblasting, and shot-blasting applied throughout the movement components.
Availability and Price
Urwerk describes the UR-100V Lightspeed Ceramic as a limited production model, without disclosing the exact number of pieces. The retail price is set at CHF 67,000, placing it slightly above earlier UR-100 versions while introducing a new case material and a more striking visual identity.

Final Thoughts
The UR-100V Lightspeed Ceramic remains firmly rooted in Urwerk’s established design language, but its new composite case brings a tangible technical update. Rather than altering the mechanics or display, the brand focuses on material innovation, resulting in a watch that feels familiar in function yet distinct in execution.
