Tudor Gives The Black Bay Chrono A Fresh New Look—And A Better Size
Tudor expands its chronograph lineup with the introduction of the new Black Bay Chrono 39 “Bumblebee”, a striking addition to the brand’s “Daring Watches” collection. Beyond its eye-catching yellow-and-black color combination, the latest release marks an important evolution for the Black Bay Chrono family by adopting a smaller and more wearable case size.

A More Compact Black Bay Chrono
For the first time, Tudor has reduced the dimensions of its Black Bay Chrono, offering a case that measures 39 mm in diameter. Compared to the standard 41 mm version, the new model delivers a more balanced profile on the wrist while maintaining the robust character expected from the collection.

The stainless steel case is now 13.10 mm thick and features a shorter 47 mm lug-to-lug distance, resulting in improved comfort and versatility for a wider range of wrist sizes. The watch retains its sporty construction, including a fixed anodized aluminum tachymeter bezel, screw-down chronograph pushers, and a water resistance rating of 200 meters.
Additional refinements include a redesigned crown with a more traditional appearance and a subtly domed caseback, contributing to a slimmer visual profile along the case flanks.
Distinctive “Bumblebee” Dial
The defining feature of this new reference is undoubtedly its vibrant matte yellow dial. Inspired by the bold aesthetic that characterizes Tudor’s more unconventional releases, the dial is contrasted by black details throughout.

The recessed chronograph sub-dials are finished in black, creating a classic bi-compax layout with strong visual depth. Blackened hands and applied hour markers further reinforce the high-contrast design, while white Super-LumiNova ensures legibility in low-light conditions.
Tudor’s signature Snowflake hour hand remains present, maintaining a clear connection to the broader Black Bay collection despite the watch’s motorsport-inspired chronograph functionality.
Manufacture Chronograph Movement
Powering the Black Bay Chrono 39 “Bumblebee” is the Manufacture Calibre MT5813, Tudor’s COSC-certified automatic chronograph movement.

Developed around the architecture of Breitling’s highly regarded B01 calibre and further customized by Tudor, the movement incorporates a column-wheel chronograph mechanism for precise operation and smooth pusher feel. It beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and offers an impressive power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
The calibre is also equipped with a silicon balance spring and a variable inertia balance, enhancing resistance to magnetic fields and long-term precision. Tudor states that the completed watch is regulated to perform within a daily variation of -2 to +4 seconds.
Bracelet and Clasp
The new Black Bay Chrono 39 is paired with a stainless steel three-link bracelet that adopts a cleaner, rivet-free design. It is fitted with Tudor’s T-Fit clasp system, allowing for quick micro-adjustments without the need for tools, making it easy to adapt the fit throughout the day.

Availability and Price
The Tudor Black Bay Chrono 39 “Bumblebee” joins the brand’s bold “Daring Watches” lineup alongside the Pink and Flamingo Blue editions. While not a limited edition, it is expected to be produced in smaller quantities than Tudor’s core collection models.
The watch is priced at € 6,200.
Our Take
The introduction of a smaller Black Bay Chrono is something many Tudor enthusiasts have been hoping for, and it arrives at a time when the industry continues to embrace more compact and wearable proportions. While the Black Bay Chrono has always been a capable sports chronograph, its previous 41 mm case and substantial thickness gave it a noticeably bulky presence on the wrist. On paper, the new 39 mm dimensions, reduced thickness, and shorter lug-to-lug measurement should result in a more balanced and comfortable watch, while also improving its overall visual appeal.
As for the “Bumblebee” execution, the vibrant yellow dial brings a fresh and energetic character to the collection. Combined with the black sub-dials, hands, and markers, it creates a striking contrast that remains highly legible while standing out from the more traditional Panda-style versions. Bright and colorful dials have become increasingly popular among collectors in recent years, and this latest release appears perfectly timed for the summer season.
Based on the specifications and official images, Tudor seems to have addressed one of the main requests from Black Bay Chrono fans while simultaneously delivering one of its boldest dial configurations to date. We certainly like what we see so far, but we’re looking forward to experiencing the watch in person before drawing any final conclusions.
