In 2025, Tissot continues its successful dialogue between watchmaking and Japanese pop culture with the release of the PRX 40 mm Powermatic 80 Grendizer 50th Anniversary Special Edition. Limited to 1,975 pieces, this model celebrates five decades of UFO Robot Grendizer, the iconic anime created by Go Nagai in 1975, while showcasing the modern versatility of the PRX collection.
A PRX With a Darker Edge
The case follows the familiar 40 mm PRX silhouette, but for this anniversary edition it has been fully treated in black PVD coating, creating a bold and futuristic look. The watch remains water-resistant to 100 meters, is topped with a sapphire crystal, and features a mineral glass caseback that allows a view of the movement within.
From the First Grendizer PRX to the 50th Anniversary Edition
This new release builds on the first PRX Grendizer edition introduced just over a year ago. That earlier model came in a stainless steel case with its natural finish, paired with a navy blue dial. The design featured Grendizer standing tall in silhouette, highlighted with two distinct shades of Super-LumiNova: yellow tracing the contours of the robot and turquoise applied to the indexes and hands. It was a lively and colorful tribute that emphasized the nostalgic charm of the anime.
The 50th Anniversary Special Edition, by contrast, takes on a darker and more dramatic tone. At its heart, the dial now shows Grendizer in a dynamic pose, his fist thrust forward, almost breaking through the sapphire crystal. Engraved details, layered textures, and Super-LumiNova illumination bring the character to life in glowing yellow, while his eyes add further intensity. A striking detail is the golden seconds hand, crafted in the shape of Grendizer’s Double Harken weapon, while a commemorative engraving circles the bezel.
Powermatic 80 Movement
Inside, the watch is powered by the automatic Powermatic 80 calibre, offering 80 hours of power reserve and fitted with a Nivachron balance spring for resistance against magnetism. The movement is visible through the transparent back, where an additional engraving of Grendizer decorates the rotor, reinforcing the thematic connection. Each piece is individually numbered, highlighting its limited-edition status.
Integrated Bracelet and Presentation Box
The watch is equipped with the PRX integrated bracelet, here executed in black PVD-coated steel with a tapering profile and a triple-blade folding clasp. Tissot includes a quick-change system for easy strap exchanges. To complete the experience, the model is delivered in a special presentation box inspired by Grendizer’s UFO Spazer, along with exclusive artwork hand-signed by Go Nagai.
