Tissot PRX 40mm Powermatic 80 Gains A Mother-Of-Pearl Dial
Tissot has quietly added a new version to the PRX collection, with the latest PRX 40mm Powermatic 80 appearing without a major announcement or launch campaign from the brand. The discreet arrival introduces a new dial option to the collection, bringing the white mother-of-pearl treatment previously seen on the smaller PRX 35 mm to the larger 40 mm model.
The Tissot PRX has become one of the most recognizable integrated-bracelet watches in its segment, with the collection now spanning numerous sizes, materials, movements and dial configurations. Rather than changing the established PRX formula, Tissot uses the new dial to introduce a different visual character while retaining the proportions, integrated bracelet and automatic movement that define the 40 mm model.
The mother-of-pearl surface gives the dial a subtle iridescent quality, with reflections changing according to the angle of the light. It is combined with the PRX’s distinctive textured pattern, creating additional depth without abandoning the collection’s recognizable design language.
The layout remains straightforward, with applied metallic hour markers and faceted hands providing definition against the light dial. Super-LumiNova is applied to the hands and markers for improved legibility in low-light conditions. A date aperture sits at 3 o’clock and is surrounded by a metallic frame that integrates neatly into the dial design.
The familiar PRX case
The watch retains the 40 mm stainless-steel case used across the automatic PRX range. Its profile measures approximately 11 mm in thickness, giving the watch a relatively slim presence on the wrist despite its sporty construction.
One of the defining characteristics of the PRX is its integrated bracelet architecture, and that remains central to this version. The stainless-steel bracelet follows the lines of the case and is secured by a triple-folding clasp. Quick-release spring bars also make it possible to remove the bracelet without specialized tools.
Tissot offers compatible leather and rubber straps separately, providing an alternative way to change the watch’s appearance and wearing characteristics.
Powermatic 80 automatic movement
Powering the PRX is Tissot’s Powermatic 80 automatic calibre. Based on the architecture of the ETA 2824 family, the movement has been developed with an extended power reserve of up to 80 hours, allowing the watch to continue running for more than three days when fully wound and left unworn.
The movement also incorporates a Nivachron balance spring, designed to improve resistance to magnetic fields encountered in everyday environments. Together, these features make the Powermatic 80 a practical choice for a watch intended to work as an everyday timepiece.
The combination of automatic winding, an extended power reserve and the integrated-bracelet sports-watch format positions this PRX as a versatile option that can move between casual and more formal settings.
A new dial for the 40mm PRX
The white mother-of-pearl configuration expands the PRX 40mm Powermatic 80 range without altering its core specifications. It also brings a dial treatment previously associated with the smaller 35mm version into the larger case.
The result is a PRX that retains the collection’s characteristic geometry and integrated-bracelet design while introducing a more reflective and nuanced dial surface.
