Timex Marlin Moon Phase: A Tribute To Lunar Legacy
The Timex Marlin continues to be one of my favorite watches from the North American watch brand, which for the most part continues to retain the charm of the affordable chic watch that we saw born a few decades ago.
It is evident that since the first Marlin, which came in a reduced 34mm case with a simple time function, a lot of water has flown under the bridge, and the old retro watch have given rise to contemporary versions, with some versions better achieved than others, counting the collection today with a few dozen models, including chronograph, sub-dial and three-hand versions, which are now joined by the new version with moon phases.
The new Timex Marlin Moon Phase, which has just been born, pays tribute to those who dared to reach the moon and therefore features a sub-dial with the lunar cycle on its dial.
On the outside, the watch once again embraces the round case in polished stainless steel in the widest version measuring 40mm diameter by 12mm thick with smooth bezel, acrylic glass, fluted crown at 3 o’clock accompanied by a mono-pusher at 2 o’clock, screwed case back and 50m water resistance.
The dial comes with three color options, blue, rose gold tone or green, featuring a brushed finish, and on it we can find four registers at 3-6-9-12 o’clock with the month, moon phases, day of week and day of the month respectively. Applied polished hour markers with lumed tips on the top, hands that also come filled with luminescent material, a white minute track and even a center seconds hand.
The watch is powered by a Quartz movement and comes attached to a Jubilee-type steel bracelet with a folding clasp with the brand’s signature or a leather strap with a crocodile pattern and pin buckle, both equipped with a quick change system, with the first costing €169 and the second €149.
Taking into account that the main highlight of the watch are the phases of the moon that give it its name, it seems to us that the rose and green versions seem to work better as they present a different color with the blue sky of the lunar cycle indicator and thus achieve the best contrast.
