There’s a New Seiko 5 Sports: The 55th Anniversary Ultraseven LE
This is definitely the year of Seiko 5 Sports considering the many special and limited editions that have been released throughout the year, and it is in this sense that Seiko has just launched a new one that celebrates the 55th anniversary of Ultraseven.
Ultraseven was a Japanese TV series that took place in the late 60s and whose plot was the fight of the Ultra Squadron, of which the protagonist Ultraseven was a part, to defend Earth from alien invaders.
The model chosen by Seiko could only be the 5 Sports, as its case inspired by the iconic Seiko SKX remains one of the most sought-after, largely for the smart design that makes it work on virtually any wrist size despite its 42mm diameter.
Thus, the new Seiko 5 Sports Ultraseven comes with the traditional stainless steel case measuring 42.5mm in diameter by 13.4mm in thickness and a lug-to-lug distance of 46mm, a black unidirectional bezel with minute scale and a case back that comes with a red glass with the silhouette of the Ultraseven and marked with the inscription “Limited Edition”.
It is on the silver dial with a metallic effect that we find some more unique details, namely the insertion of a black dashed inner ring where the hour markers are applied and the inclusion of the TDF-UG inscription at 6 o’clock which means “Terrestrial Defense Force – Ultra Guard”.
The watch is offered on a grey NATO strap with a white central stripe flanked by two thin black stripes with the same inscription found on the dial but here in the extended form, ie “Terrestrial Defense Force”.
All other features inside and out are faithful to the other Seiko 5 Sports models, it remains to add that the 3,400 units produced will be available in a special stainless steel box that comes with the Ultra Guard logo from January 2023 and at the price of €450.
