There Are Four New Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronographs And A New Caliber
Today Seiko introduces four new Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronographs 1/100th of a second and along with them comes the new Caliber 8A50.
The new Speedtimers stand out for not having the classic three-counter design, but featuring four asymmetrical sub-dials instead.
Three (actually four) of the counters are dedicated to the chronograph function and the largest one to the time function. So we have the time display at 6 o’clock, which when the stopwatch is activated becomes a 60-minute counter, with the hour hand hiding behind the minute hand. And then we have, a 1/100th-second counter at 2 o’clock, a 1/10th-second counter at 10 and lastly a seconds-counter at 12.
On the outside, the four timepieces share the same 42mm diameter and 12.9mm thick steel case, smooth bezel, sapphire crystal, crown at 4 o’clock, three pushers at 2-8-10 o’clock and 100m of water resistance. Inside, as already announced, the new Caliber 8A50 with solar-powered quartz movement operates. The new Speedtimers are attached to a three-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp.
Among the four new references, there are two regular editions one with a black dial (SFJ003) and another with a “Panda” dial (SFJ001) and both will be available for the same price of €890.
The other two references are limited editions of 4,000 pieces each and have some differentiating details that we will list below.
The Analog Quartz Chronograph 40th Anniversary Limited Edition (SFJ005) incorporates details from the world’s first analog quartz chronograph that Seiko released in 1983, such as the colour scheme on the dial that comes with a light brown background, black counters and reddish-orange hands. In addition, this edition also comes with a black PVD coating on the bezel and centre links of the steel bracelet. This edition can be purchased for the price of €930.
Finally, the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23 Limited Edition (SFJ007) stands out for featuring a black textured dial with gilt accents. The dial evokes the running track surface and the golden tone of the hands and the outer rings of the sub-dials the colour of the first-place medal. On the outside, the steel case and bracelet come with a black PVD coating. This chronograph will be on sale for €970.
Just to finish, let me say that all references will be available from July 2023 in the brand’s official boutiques and in a selection of authorized retailers.
