The independent Dutch watch brand VPC (Venustas Per Constantiam) expands its collection with the Type 39VM, a mechanical dive watch that marks the brand’s entry into the professional dive watch category. Following the hand-wound Type 37HW, this new model introduces an automatic movement while maintaining VPC’s restrained design language and emphasis on functional clarity. The Type 39VM—short for Viator Maris—draws inspiration from mid-20th-century tool watches, with development centered on compact proportions, wearability, and technical efficiency.

Case Construction and Dimensions

The stainless steel case measures 39 mm in diameter and spans 47 mm from lug to lug, offering dimensions that prioritize comfort on a wide range of wrist sizes. Despite its dive watch credentials, the Type 39VM stands out for its remarkably slim profile, with a total thickness of just 9.34 mm including the sapphire crystal. The case is treated with a hardening process, enhancing protection against scratches and daily wear. Water resistance is rated to 200 meters, achieved through a screw-down crown and an optimized case construction designed to preserve structural integrity while minimizing thickness.

A unidirectional rotating bezel with a precise 120-click mechanism surrounds the dial. It is fitted with a matte black ceramic insert, chosen for its resistance to fading and wear. The engraved bezel markings are filled with luminescent ceramic material, ensuring clear readability in low-light conditions and underwater environments. A flat sapphire crystal covers the dial, contributing to both durability and the watch’s reduced vertical profile.

Dial Variants and Legibility

The Type 39VM is available in two dial variants, Graphite and Frost, corresponding to black and silvery white colorways. Both dials feature a matte, finely textured surface designed to reduce reflections and enhance legibility. Applied hour markers are diamond-cut for crisp definition and filled with BGW9 Super-LumiNova, which emits a blue glow in darkness. Dauphine-style hands are similarly treated with luminous material to ensure consistent readability. The typography used across the watch, including the bezel numerals, is custom-designed for VPC, reinforcing visual coherence and precision.

Movement and Performance

Inside the case, the Type 39VM is powered by the Sellita SW300-1b automatic movement in Top Grade specification. The movement is COSC-certified, confirming chronometer-level accuracy. Measuring approximately 3.60 mm in thickness, the SW300 is well suited to slim case designs and plays a key role in achieving the watch’s overall proportions. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a power reserve of around 56 hours, with automatic winding via a central rotor.

Bracelet, Strap, and Wearability

The watch is offered on either a custom stainless steel bracelet or a black rubber strap, both designed specifically for the Type 39VM. Each option features VPC’s single-button quick-release system, allowing straps to be changed without tools. The clasp incorporates a tool-free micro-adjustment mechanism, enabling precise sizing adjustments throughout the day for improved comfort.

Availability and Pricing

As of January 15, 2026, the VPC Type 39VM is officially available for order. Sales are conducted through a presale system with full upfront payment, and total production is expected to be limited to between 300 and 500 pieces. An initial allocation of 250 units was offered via early access to existing customers and registered followers, with the public release opening today at 15:00 CET. Delivery is expected within approximately seven to nine months from the date of purchase.

Pricing for the VPC Type 39VM starts at € 2,768 when paired with the rubber strap, rises to € 2,998 on the stainless steel bracelet, and reaches € 3,267 for the package including both strap and bracelet options. All prices are listed excluding taxes.
