The Seiko SNXS Is Back

The affordable Seiko SNXS watch from the 70s is finally back, which was notable for the 5 features that gave it the Seiko 5 crest on the dial.

The watch is now renewed in the contemporary 5 Sports collection with the EDC (Everyday Carry) concept, maintaining the same shape and characteristics that made it famous, including the crown at 4 o’clock.

The watch arrives in three colour variants on the dial and the new references are the SRPK87 which comes with a blue dial, the SRPK89 which comes with a black dial which, like the blue, has a matte shiny finish and finally the SRPK91 which comes with a champagne dial with a sunray finish.

Starting with the dial, it retains most of the previous features, presenting stick-applied hour markers that, like the hour and minute hands, are filled with Lumibrite in a beige tone, in the same hue we can also be found on the minute chapter ring, with except the champagne-toned variant which is presented in black, a framed day-date window at 3 o’clock with a black background, an orange centre seconds hand and the modern Seiko 5 Sports logo at noon and the inscription “Automatic” at 6 o’clock.

On the outside, we once again find the Tonneau-shaped stainless steel case from the 70s, which here comes with dimensions of 37.40mm in diameter, 12.50mm in thickness and 44.70mm lug-to-lug distance, with a mainly brushed finish, smooth polished bezel, drilled lugs, Hardlex curved glass, recessed crown at 4 o’clock, see-through case back and 100m water resistance.

Inside now runs the 24-jewel Caliber 4R36 automatic movement that comes with hacking seconds, reaching 21,600 Vph and offering up to 41 hours of power reserve.

The watches come attached to a 3-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp and come with a price tag of £340, which is a far cry from prices of the past.
