When Vacheron sent us the Press Releases of the novelties, they had left open the possibility of being able to present a surprise, and as promised, the surprise was nothing less than the release of the historic Vacheron Constantin 222 introduced in 1977.
The 222 model emerged as the second model of the brand during the 70s as a response to the watches with an integrated bracelet from its main competitors, it would, however, be discontinued in the first half of the 80s, having been produced in stainless steel, gold and also in two tones.
Today Vacheron Constantin launches the new 222 in yellow gold and which is very similar to the original model, 37mm case with the same threaded bezel from over 40 years ago through which it is possible to access the movement, gold dial with applied baton hour markers and central hands filled with Super-LumiNova in green tone (similar to the tritium material used in the original), and lastly, date window at three o’clock.
Powered by the In-house automatic movement Caliber 2455/2, which replaces the previous Caliber 1121 based on the Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 920, and which offers up to 40 hours of power reserve.
Lastly, the Vacheron Constantin 222 retains the original integrated bracelet with hexagonal central links and folding clasp, in the same material of the case.
Such a nice surprise from Vacheron Constantin for the many aficionados of the Maltese Cross brand. Needless to say that we loved it and we hope that it is the harbinger for the emergence of a future steel version.
