The Return of the Perpetual Calendar to the IWC Portofino Line

The mother of all watch complications is back in IWC’s Portofino line, with the launch of two new perpetual calendar models, a full debut for the stainless steel version.

The new Portofino Perpetual Calendar comes in two models with different case materials, one in stainless steel as mentioned above and the other in 18K 5N gold.

The introduction of the perpetual calendar in the elegant Portofino line is done through the insertion of three symmetrical sub-dials on the silver-white dial, which translates into the indication of the weekday with a leap year window at 9 o’clock, date at 3 o’clock and month with moon phases aperture at 6 o’clock. Still on the dial we can find, applied hour indexes, Roman numerals and leaf hands all matching the case material and last but not least, a central seconds hand and small hands all in blue.

The 40mm diameter by 12.7mm thick case comes with the traditional polished finish, short lugs with straight lines, fluted crown at 3 o’clock, sapphire glass in the front and open back case and an (incredible) 50 meters of water resistance.

Inside the watch is operated by an automatic movement, which continues to incorporate the engineering of the former chief watchmaker, Kurt Klaus, developed in the 1980s that distinguished itself by offering the perpetual calendar complication in less than 100 pieces and with a high level of autonomy and ease of use. The Caliber 82650 with Pellaton winding developed in the ’50s incorporates ceramic materials, operating at 28,800 Vph and offering up to 60 hours of power reserve.

The watches are offered with a blue calf-leather strap and are already available in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers with prices starting at €26,000 and €36,700 for the stainless steel and gold versions respectively.
