The Return Of The ‘Original’ Piaget Polo 79
This year, which marks the 45th anniversary of the Piaget Polo watch, the brand brings exciting news with the relaunch of the iconic watch from the late 70s and early 80s with horizontal striations.
From the current Polo collection, the only traces of vintage models are the horizontal stripes on the dial, although they have very little to do with its original design, the new Piaget Polo 79 that arrives now recovers its roots, presenting horizontal stripes that extend throughout the watch including case, bracelet and dial. As a complement and for retro lovers, the watch comes in gold, signaling a big return.
The watch once again wears a round case with an integrated bracelet measuring 38mm in diameter and with a thickness of just 7.45mm thanks to the ultra-thin mechanical movement it now houses, featuring a mainly brushed finish only interrupted by its polished grooves. Sapphire glass at the front and rear, fluted gold crown and 50m water resistance
The dial, which is a follow-up to the case and bracelet, comes with a striated pattern alternating between brushed and polished, center Dauphine faceted hands also in gold, a dot engraved minute track, and finally the inscriptions of the brand lettering at noon and the tiny ‘Swiss Made’ at the bottom.
It is through the sapphire rear glass that we can observe the automatic micro-rotor Caliber 1200P1, with a height of just 2.25mm that operates 28,800 Vph and offers up to 44 hours of power reserve.
Just like the original, the watch is not cheap, making its almost 200 grams of gold worth its weight, with a price of around €83,000.
Our Opinion
Just as last year we applauded the return of the Vacheron Constantin 222, the return of the original Piaget Polo is another good news that leaves us very excited. Perhaps these launches will not be the cup of tea for many but they will certainly bring joy to a more conservative audience.
