The Return Of The Contodat: Eberhard Revives A 1970s Classic

At Watches and Wonders 2025, Eberhard & Co. unveiled the new Contodat collection, drawing inspiration from its historic 1970s catalog. The collection includes two models: the Contodat Chronographe and the Contodat Automatic, both built around stainless steel cases with integrated bracelets and robust mechanical movements sourced from Sellita.

Case and Construction

Both Contodat references feature a 39mm stainless steel case, with angular lugs integrated directly into the bracelet to echo the design language of 1970s sports watches. The chronograph variant measures 13.9mm in thickness, while the automatic version is thinner at 11.3mm, due to its simpler movement architecture.

All models in the collection are equipped with screw-down crowns and solid screw-in case backs, contributing to a 100-meter water resistance rating, suitable for daily wear and light aquatic activity. Both models include anti-reflective sapphire crystals for improved legibility.

Contodat Chronographe

The Contodat Chronographe is powered by the Sellita SW510 B Ha, a self-winding chronograph movement that operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offers up to 62-hour power reserve. The movement features a column wheel mechanism, quick-set date at 6 o’clock, a 30-minute totalizer at 3 o’clock, and a running seconds counter at 9 o’clock. The chronograph seconds hand is centrally mounted.

The watch includes elongated pump-style pushers for tactile control of the chronograph functions. Dial variants include blue, silver, and green, each with a sunray and azurage finish, contrasted by orange detailing on the tachymeter scale, chronograph seconds hand, and minute counter. Luminous elements are applied to the indices and hands using white Super-LumiNova, enhancing legibility in low light without relying on vintage-style patina.

Contodat Automatic

The Contodat Automatic is a three-hand model with a small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock and a trapezoidal date window at 3 o’clock, offering a symmetrical yet distinctive display layout. This reference is equipped with the Sellita SW290-1, an automatic caliber beating at 28,800 vph with a 41-hour power reserve. Like its chronograph counterpart, it features a solid case back and a screw-down crown.

The Automatic is available in five dial options: blue, green, silver, black, and gray, with a mix of sunray-brushed and glossy lacquered finishes. The bracelet includes polished center links, subtly elevating the model’s aesthetic toward a more refined look while maintaining its sport-oriented character.

Pricing and Availability

The Contodat Chronographe is priced at €3,970, while the Contodat Automatic retails for €2,940. Both models are now available through Eberhard’s authorized retailers and selected online platforms.

Our Opinion

It’s definitely an interesting entry from the brand, based on its archives, which we usually like and which fits very well on the wrist. The big drawback is probably the price, where the competition is very strong and there is a lot to choose from in that price range.
