The Return Of A Classic: Tissot PR516 Time-And-Date Automatic With Powermatic 80
The Tissot PR516 returns in a new time-and-date format, showcasing a retro-inspired look that recalls the original models from the brand’s history. This latest release builds on the earlier revival of the PR516 in a chronograph version, offering collectors and enthusiasts a simpler yet refined model powered by the robust Powermatic 80 automatic movement.
At a sleek 38mm width, with a thickness of 11.20mm and a length of 44mm, the PR516’s stainless steel case embodies a primarily brushed finish, highlighting a fixed black bezel that sits flush within the case. This bezel features a 60-minute scale and is protected by durable mineral glass, while sapphire crystal protects the main dial area. Unique design touches include lugs connected by a straight bridge and a fluted crown positioned at 3 o’clock, proudly displaying Tissot’s signature emblem. Additionally, the watch boasts a see-through case back and offers water resistance of up to 100 meters, enhancing its everyday functionality.
The dial of the PR516 Powermatic 80 is a true nod to classic Tissot design, with rectangular applied hour markers and hands filled with Super-LumiNova for enhanced readability. A colourful central seconds hand, notably lacking the brand’s usual T-shaped counterweight, adds a touch of modernity, while a date window sits next to the crown for easy reference. Along the dial’s perimeter, a domed minute track provides a subtle vintage aesthetic. At noon, Tissot’s hallmark is prominently displayed, with “PR516” and “Powermatic 80” inscriptions at 6 o’clock underscoring the watch’s heritage and movement.
Available in four stylish variants, the PR516 lineup includes a model with a black dial and bezel, a red seconds hand, and a steel bracelet. Another features a black dial and bezel with a yellow seconds hand on a brown leather strap. For a cooler tone, a blue dial and bezel option includes a red seconds hand on a matching blue leather strap. Lastly, a distinctive two-tone case and bracelet variant offer a silver dial with black bezel and gilt accents, lending a luxurious touch to the retro-inspired design.
Powering each model is Tissot’s Powermatic 80 automatic movement, which includes a Nivachron balance spring for enhanced anti-magnetic properties. This 23-jewel movement operates at 21,600 Vph and delivers up to 80 hours of power reserve, making it as functional as it is reliable.
Now available at Tissot’s boutiques and authorized retailers, the PR516 Powermatic 80 is priced at €675 for models with a leather strap, €745 for the steel bracelet model, and €825 for the two-tone case and bracelet variant. The new Tissot PR516 combines vintage charm with contemporary technical features, making it a compelling choice for watch enthusiasts who appreciate timeless style and Swiss-made precision.
