Belgian independent watchmaker Ressence continues to push the boundaries of contemporary watchmaking with new additions to its Type 7 collection. Introduced as the brand’s first GMT-equipped model, the latest versions arrive with fresh dial colors while maintaining the distinctive orbital display system and oil-filled architecture that have become signatures of the collection.

Designed as a modern interpretation of a sporty travel watch, the Type 7 combines futuristic aesthetics with a surprisingly functional approach to daily wear.

A Lightweight Titanium Case Built For Everyday Use

The Ressence Type 7 comes housed in a 41 mm Grade 5 titanium case with a sandblasted finish contrasted by polished chamfered edges.

Despite its complex engineering, the Type 7 remains remarkably lightweight, enhancing comfort for long-term wear. The curved case construction and integrated design contribute to a balanced fit, reinforcing the watch’s tool-watch credentials.

The Ressence Orbital Display System

At the heart of the Type 7 is the brand’s patented ROCS 7 (Ressence Orbital Convex System) module, powered by an automatic ETA-based movement underneath.

Rather than relying on traditional hands, the entire dial rotates continuously to display the time. The hours appear on the largest rotating subdial, while the minutes are indicated by a large pointer traveling along the outer minute track. Seconds are displayed on a smaller rotating subdial, creating the dynamic visual effect that defines Ressence watches.

Although unconventional at first glance, the layout is designed to isolate each time indication, making the display intuitive after a short adjustment period.

Oil-Filled Technology Creates A Unique Visual Effect

One of the most technically impressive aspects of the Type 7 is its oil-filled dial chamber. Ressence fills the space beneath the domed sapphire crystal with transparent oil, eliminating light refraction and enhancing legibility from nearly every angle.

This system also creates the illusion that the dial is projected directly onto the underside of the crystal, giving the display an almost digital appearance despite being entirely mechanical.

The convex dial itself is crafted from Grade 5 titanium, further emphasizing the watch’s sculptural design language.

An additional functional detail is the integrated oil temperature indicator positioned opposite the hour display. The indicator changes color depending on temperature conditions, shifting from blue to red as temperatures increase.

Ressence’s First GMT Function

The Type 7 marked an important milestone for Ressence by introducing the brand’s first GMT complication.

A dedicated rotating subdial allows users to track a second time zone, making the watch particularly suited for travel. The GMT mechanism is adjusted through the caseback system rather than a conventional crown.

Like other Ressence models, the Type 7 eliminates the traditional crown entirely. Instead, the multifunctional caseback is used to control the watch. Rotating it clockwise adjusts the GMT indication, while turning it counterclockwise winds the movement. An external locking ring secures the mechanism and helps provide the watch with 50 meters of water resistance.

This unconventional interface remains one of the most distinctive elements of the Ressence experience.

Bracelet And Rubber Strap Options

The Type 7 is available with either an integrated titanium bracelet or a fitted rubber strap.

The titanium bracelet features a tool-free micro-adjustment system integrated into the clasp, allowing the wearer to easily adapt the fit throughout the day for added comfort. For a sportier appearance, Ressence also offers a fitted rubber strap matched to each dial color and paired with a titanium pin buckle.

Availability And Price

The new Ressence Type 7 models are now available with Black and Cactus dial options, joining the existing Night Blue version in the permanent collection.
