The New Swatch Space Collection
With the motto “Time Is What You Make Of”, Swatch has just launched its new Space collection.
This new collection pays homage to the passion and innovation of the US space agency NASA, which since its founding in 1958 has been dedicated to space exploration, marked by its first major milestone in history in 1969 with the Apollo 11 mission that carried Neil Armstrong, the first man standing on the moon.
At a time when space exploration seems to enter a new phase, that of tourist exploration with Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic taking the lead having made the first successful flight on July 11th, Elon Musk’s Space X and the Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin should follow the same steps very soon.
The new collection aims to inspire people to dream big, create their own universe and make the most of their time on Earth.
Of the five watches that make up the collection, three are presented in BIOCERAMIC, a material composed of 2/3 ceramic and 1/3 biological plastic, and its design is inspired by the spacesuits worn by NASA astronauts.
The three BIOCERAMIC models come in a 47 mm diameter case with a biological plastic dial, two of them come with a chronograph function with a 12 hours counter at 2 o’clock, a 60 minutes counter at 10 o’clock, and a small seconds at 6 o’clock. The central chronograph seconds counter showing in the unusual position at 10 o’clock and it’s highlighted in red representing the final countdown to take-off. The BIG BOLD CHRONO EXTRAVEHICULAR comes with a case, dial, and silicone strap in white, with the NASA logo inscription and two loops, one in blue and the other in red, this model also has the particularity of presenting a “tiny” date window at 4 o’clock. The BIG BOLD CHRONO LAUNCH comes with a silver (semitransparent) case and dial, bezel, and silicone strap in orange with NASA logo inscription and two loops, one in blue and one in white. Both chronographs come with a blue crown at 3 o’clock flanked by two red and blue chronograph pusher buttons. Finally, we have the BIG BOLD JUMPSUIT with a simple hour function, which comes with a white case and bezel, dial (semi-transparent), and silicone strap in blue, with the NASA logo and two white loops and a red crown at 2 o’clock.
