The New Sealander Automatic By Christopher Ward
British watchmaker Christopher Ward is strengthening its main line with an updated version of the Sealander Automatic, a model designed to deliver versatility, comfort, and solid mechanical performance in a clean, contemporary package.
Case and Proportions
The refreshed Sealander Automatic is offered in two case sizes—36 mm and 39 mm—both crafted from stainless steel and built around the brand’s signature Lightcatcher case architecture. This design combines predominantly brushed surfaces with sharply executed polished bevels and a fully polished bezel, giving the watch a balanced mix of sportiness and refinement.

Thickness remains notably restrained at 10.6mm for the 36mm version and 10.9mm for the 39mm, making it suitable for daily wear across a variety of wrist sizes. Despite the slim profile, the watch includes a sapphire exhibition caseback, allowing a view of the movement inside.
Dial Design and Finishing
The dial has been subtly reworked with a cleaner, more modern layout. Available colors include white, black, and sky blue across both sizes, while additional options bring variety to each format—pink for the 36 mm and a pistachio green for the 39 mm.

Applied indexes and hands are diamond-polished and faceted, enhancing light reflection and legibility. All luminous elements are filled with Super-LumiNova Grade X1 BL C1, ensuring strong visibility in low-light conditions. A notable detail is the framed date window positioned at 6 o’clock, which features a color-matched date wheel to integrate seamlessly into the dial while maintaining visual balance.
Movement: Enhanced Performance
At the core of the Sealander Automatic is the Sellita SW200-2 Power+, an updated version of the widely used SW200 platform. This new iteration brings a significant improvement in power reserve, increasing it to approximately 65 hours compared to the previous 38 hours, while maintaining a 4Hz frequency.

The movement also benefits from a series of technical upgrades, including a redesigned gear train, barrel, and mainspring. It is presented in Elaboré grade, featuring refined finishing, upgraded shock protection via Incabloc, and a custom rotor branded with Christopher Ward’s logo, all visible through the exhibition caseback.
Everyday Functionality
Designed as a true daily wearer, the Sealander Automatic offers 150 meters of water resistance, making it suitable for a wide range of environments and activities.

The bracelet system has also been upgraded for greater convenience and comfort. Both the Bader and Consort steel bracelets now include quick-release spring bars and introduce the new iLink system, which allows tool-free link removal through a discreet push-button mechanism. This makes sizing adjustments significantly easier. The clasp itself has been slightly reduced in thickness to enhance wearing comfort, while additional strap options such as rubber and leather further increase the watch’s versatility.
Pricing and Availability
The Christopher Ward Sealander Automatic is positioned competitively within its segment. It is priced at €1,125 when paired with a leather strap, € 1,255 on a rubber strap, € 1,335 on the Bader bracelet, and € 1,390 on the Consort bracelet.

With its balanced proportions, upgraded movement, and practical improvements, the latest Sealander Automatic reinforces its position as a dependable and versatile mechanical watch designed for everyday use.
