The new Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Black Black
One of the other novelties brought by Omega is the new Seamaster Diver 300M Black Black, after all, and although it already has more than two dozen models in its Diver 300M collection, none presented in full black, the closest was Black Ceramic, which features a ceramic and titanium case, but then features as a bezel with a white diver scale as well as a white lume on the dial indexes, in addition to a crown and a Helium valve escape both in steel, which end up revealing a watch which is not really a pure black, but which is beautiful and fits perfectly in the collection and which, like almost all its models, looks good even in a suit in the style of the best known British Special Agent ever, the undeniable 007. So something was missing different and more to the stealth that may not match so well with a suit, that is not as versatile but that may be more seen as a tool watch as it happens with the Tudor Pelagos and it, for now, this how I see this new Seamaster Diver 300M and say for now, because we often have a different perception when we see a watch in images but then when we see it live we completely change our opinion and that’s why I leave this caveat here.
But we immediately went on to analyze this timepiece and as you may have already noticed from the images and unlike the other models it has a total solidity in the black ceramic material [ZrO2] throughout the watch and no detail has been overlooked, as it extends beyond from the case, through the bezel, wave-pattern dial, crown and helium valve escape. This material, in addition to containing anti-allergic, anti-magnetic properties, being lighter than steel, more resistant to scratches is also more environmentally friendly.
The bezel comes with the laser-ablated numerals on the diving scale, a technique that was used in the Nekton Edition and after that it was also used in at least two more models, which I had the opportunity to try and which I really liked the visual effect on the wrist. Here Omega announces another novelty that the bezel has properties that prevent fingerprints and I must confess that I was a little surprised by the “supposed novelty” because the bezel being laser-ablated, I think not to allow fingerprint, but again, we will give the benefit of the doubt for when we check it live.
The dial also features the usual black ceramic ZrO2 dial, with a matte finish with polished waves in positive relief and here there is nothing new, however, the novelty comes from the luminescence material used in the indexes and the hands that have an anthracite colour and thus show consistency with all the black material used in the watch, which is really cool.
The watch is fitted with the In-house Caliber 8806, which is also not new among the other models in the collection with a 43.5 mm case, the basis of this movement is the Caliber 8800, which equips the rest of the collection with a 42 mm and which it differs by not having a date function, which for me I must confess that I am a fan of the absence of date in watches. The automatic movement comes with Co-Axial escapement, silicon balance spring, magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss and is Certified Master Chronometer by METAS. The movement is luxuriously ornamented with rhodium-plated rotor and bridges with Geneva waves in arabesque that can be seen through the sapphire glass of its case back that comes with the “NAIAD Lock” system.
The watch is offered with a black rubber strap and should be available from July in the brand’s boutiques for the price of € 8,600.
Final considerations, the 43.5 mm case is really big for many wrists whose universe I am part of, but I understand that a tool watch wants to be big (…but maybe not so much), the black homogeneity pleases me despite losing a lot of versatility, absence of date as I mentioned for me is not a problem, personally, I like it but I would love to see it before in the 42 mm case.
