The New Breitling Navitimer B09 Miles Davis Has One Seriously Cool Bracelet

To mark the centenary of Miles Davis’ birth, Breitling has introduced a special Navitimer collection dedicated to one of the most influential figures in jazz history. Unveiled during Geneva Watch Days, the collection revisits a watch associated with Davis while combining vintage-inspired design with Breitling’s modern mechanical chronograph technology.

At its centre is the Navitimer B09 Chronograph 41 Miles Davis, a 500-piece limited edition in stainless steel. Breitling is also producing just 50 exclusive box sets containing three versions of the watch in stainless steel, 18k yellow gold and platinum.

A Navitimer Inspired by Miles Davis

The new model takes its visual cues from the Navitimer Ref. 806 Mk 5, a reference known to have been worn by Miles Davis. Rather than turning the watch into an overt piece of celebrity memorabilia, Breitling has incorporated the connection through a series of discreet details while retaining the unmistakable character of the Navitimer.

The stainless-steel case measures 41 mm in diameter, matching the dimensions of the watch associated with Davis, while thickness is 13 mm and lug-to-lug measures 47.10 mm.

The familiar Navitimer dial architecture remains central to the design, including the slide-rule bezel that has defined the collection since its introduction in the 1950s. The predominantly black-and-cream colour scheme reinforces the vintage character, while cream-coloured lume provides a period-inspired appearance.

A particularly subtle detail is the Twin Jet logo, a historic Breitling emblem that adds another link to the brand’s aviation-era heritage.

The watch is rated to 30 metres of water resistance and is offered with either a calf-leather strap or a distinctive modern interpretation of Breitling’s Air Racer bracelet.

The Air Racer Bracelet Returns

The bracelet is one of the most distinctive elements of the new Miles Davis edition.

Inspired by Breitling’s historic Air Racer design, the modern bracelet features a perforated cuff-like construction with large circular openings. The design provides the watch with a distinctly retro-industrial appearance while differentiating it from the more conventional Navitimer bracelets.

Breitling has also incorporated hinged links close to the clasp, intended to improve flexibility and comfort on the wrist.

The steel reference is available as AB09501A1B1X1 with the leather strap or AB09501A1B1A1 with the Air Racer bracelet.

A Hand-Wound COSC Chronograph

Powering the watch is Breitling’s B09 calibre, a manually wound mechanical chronograph developed for the brand’s heritage-inspired models.

The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and combines a column wheel chronograph mechanism with a vertical clutch. It is also COSC-certified, confirming its chronometric performance through the independent Swiss testing organisation.

The choice of a hand-wound movement is particularly appropriate for a watch rooted in Breitling’s historical chronograph designs. It also allows the case to maintain the proportions and character expected from the Navitimer B09 family.

The 50-Piece Miles Davis Box Set

For collectors looking for something considerably rarer, Breitling has created a box set restricted to 50 examples.

The set brings together three executions of the Navitimer B09 Chronograph 41 Miles Davis. Alongside the stainless-steel model are an 18k yellow-gold version and a platinum version featuring a blue dial.

All three watches are fitted with calf-leather straps and matching folding clasps.

The presentation itself is designed as part of the experience. The watches are housed in a specially created display case inspired by a trumpet case, providing a direct visual connection to Davis’ musical legacy.

The box set also includes a particularly unusual benefit: lifetime membership to the forthcoming Breitling Social Club.

A Connection Beyond the Watch

The Miles Davis editions are also tied to Breitling’s plans for a new physical community concept, the Breitling Social Club.

The club is currently planned to open in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in late 2027, with the brand describing it as a meeting place for collectors, creatives, entrepreneurs, artists and Breitling enthusiasts.

Owners of the 500-piece stainless-steel Navitimer B09 Chronograph 41 Miles Davis will receive two years of membership, while purchasers of the 50-piece box set receive lifetime membership.

This gives the limited edition a broader connection to Breitling’s future brand strategy, while the watch itself remains firmly rooted in the company’s historical Navitimer design language.

Our Take

For us, the most attractive element of this release is undoubtedly the Air Racer-inspired steel bracelet. Its perforated design brings a strong vintage character to the Navitimer while giving the watch a more distinctive presence than the standard strap options.

Beyond its looks, however, we are particularly curious to experience it on the wrist. The cuff-like construction and hinged links around the clasp are designed with comfort in mind, but the bracelet’s unusual architecture raises an interesting question: how does it actually feel during extended wear?

It is certainly one of the elements of the Miles Davis edition that we would most like to experience firsthand.

The Breitling Navitimer B09 Chronograph 41 Miles Davis is limited to 500 pieces in stainless steel.

Prices start at € 8,900 with a calfskin strap and go up to € 9,450 with the Air Racer bracelet.
