The New Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms Ocean Of Storms Has Just Landed
The sixth variant of the recent and popular collaboration between Blancpain and Swatch, the ‘Scuba Fifty: Ocean Of Storms’, has just arrived on the market.
And if many dared to think that launch would stop there because it didn’t have the same impact as MoonSwatch launched a year earlier, they were wrong. Although it does not follow the same logic as Omega x Swatch in the various versions of Moonshine Gold made through launches limited in time and space, the new variant of the Blancpain x Swatch collaboration becomes part of the permanent collection, dispelling the fears of scarcity that characterize each new Moonshine Gold.
But let’s get to the point, the new ‘Ocean Of Storms’ is inspired by the Oceanus Procellarum, which is the only ocean on the Moon, occupying a vast area of that planet, and that’s why the new watch comes in a grey case with a black bezel and dial, and therefore it is by far the most sober of all the variants presented so far, which will certainly leave the most conservative fans happy.
The black dial comes with a sunray finish, triangle-shaped applied hour markers and Arabic numerals at 3-6-9-12 o’clock which, like the three central hands, are all filled with luminescent material. Followed by a date window at 4:30 and the usual inscriptions in white with emphasis on the last line at 6 o’clock referring to the watertightness of 91m which is done in orange following the tip of the center seconds hand.
On the outside, the watch once again wears a robust round bio-ceramic case with dimensions of 42.30mm in diameter, 14.40mm in thickness and 48mm lug-to-lug distance, domed rotating bezel with diving scale and 12 o’clock diamond marker, bio-sourced glass, drilled lugs, ‘Swatch’ engraved on the profile case, fluted crown at 3 o’clock with guards and open case back.
Inside, like its peers, it is powered by the Sistem51 mechanical movement, which operates 21,600 Vph and offers up to 90 hours of power reserve. The rotor once again comes decorated with the painting of a nudibranch this time called ‘Okenia Luna’.
The watch comes attached to a black nylon NATO-type strap with central white stripe and two adjacent gray stripes, made of recycled fishing nets collected from ocean, and hardware matching the case.
The watch is now on sale in selected official brand boutiques for a price of €400, following the previous rule of 1 watch per day per person.
