The New A. Lange & Söhne 1815: Classic Elegance In A Compact Case
A. Lange & Söhne expands the 1815 collection with two new models in 750 white and pink gold, offering a more compact and refined interpretation of the brand’s classic three-hand watch. The 1815 collection, named after Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s birth year, continues the brand’s tradition of precision and timeless design.
Case
The new 1815 introduces a more compact case, measuring 34mm in diameter and 6.4mm in height, a significant reduction from the previous 38.50mm by 8.80mm model. Crafted in 750 white or pink gold, the case maintains the understated elegance characteristic of the collection. The tiered bezel enhances the watch’s classic proportions, while the sapphire crystal with a transparent caseback provides a glimpse into the hand-finished movement. The crown, used for both winding the watch and setting the time, is positioned for easy handling without disrupting the sleek design.

Dial
The new 1815 models replace the previous Argenté (silvery white) dial with a striking blue 925 silver dial. Maintaining the brand’s signature aesthetic, the dial features a railway-track minute scale and Arabic numerals, both inspired by historic Lange pocket watches. The subsidiary seconds dial, positioned at 6 o’clock, adds to the watch’s balanced symmetry. Lancet-shaped hands, crafted in matching 750 gold, ensure excellent legibility while reinforcing the watch’s refined character.
Movement
The new 1815 is powered by the manually wound manufacture calibre L152.1, marking a notable evolution from the previous L051.1 movement. While the former provided a 55-hour power reserve, the new movement extends this to 72 hours, enhancing reliability and convenience. Measuring 28.1mm in diameter and 2.9mm in height, the movement features a three-quarter plate made of untreated German silver, decorated with Glashütte ribbing. The hand-engraved balance cock, four screwed gold chatons, and thermally blued screws further emphasize the artisanal craftsmanship. The oscillation system includes a shock-resistant screw balance and a superior-quality balance spring manufactured in-house, vibrating at a frequency of 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour, ensuring precise timekeeping.
Strap & Buckle
Each version of the new 1815 is fitted with a hand-stitched alligator leather strap, complementing its respective case material. The white-gold model is paired with a blue strap, while the pink-gold version features a reddish-brown strap. The polished prong buckle, crafted in 750 white or pink gold, secures the watch comfortably while maintaining the refined elegance expected from A. Lange & Söhne.
Our Opinion
The new 34mm size, which will seem small to many, is in our opinion the big trend that marks and will mark the coming years. The elegance combined with simplicity of the new ALS 1815 is superb, it is already one of our favorites in this edition of Watches And Wonders 2025, let’s hope that the future brings new tones on the dial.
Conclusion
With a more compact case, an enhanced movement, and a striking blue dial, the new 1815 models offer a fresh yet timeless take on a Lange classic. These updates reinforce the brand’s dedication to precision and tradition while refining the watch’s overall wearability.
