The Mercedes 190E EVO II Revival Is Coming

In 1990, the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II made its mark as an iconic sports sedan designed for DTM racing homologation. With a potent Cosworth-engineered 2.5L four-cylinder, distinctive aerodynamics, and only 502 units produced, it became synonymous with 1990s motorsports success, particularly in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM). 

Now, HWA, founded by Hans Werner Aufrecht and celebrating its 25th anniversary, aims to revive this legendary road monster. The highly anticipated Mercedes 190E EVO II restomod, named HWA EVO, pays homage to the iconic 90s model. Limited to just 100 units, the vehicle is priced at €714,000 before VAT, with initial deliveries scheduled for late 2025. 

Deviating from the original, HWA opted for more common Mercedes-Benz 190E (W 201) models due to the rarity of the EVO II. The restomod boasts distinctive design elements, including a black grille, smoked headlights, pronounced wheel arches, and a prominent rear wing, aiming for a cleaner, modern aesthetic. Changes encompass a redesigned front splitter, updated cooling vents, and a refreshed logo, replacing the original Mercedes badges. Modernized LED tail lights and a simplified, linear design adorn the rear. 

While specific powertrain details are undisclosed, HWA promises technological advancements in performance, brakes, aerodynamics, and safety. The restomod reflects over 12,000 hours of labor, emphasizing precision and attention to detail. Expect a significant power boost over the original’s 232bhp and 181lb ft of torque, marking a noteworthy evolution for the HWA EVO.
