The Legendary Aquastar Benthos Dive Watch Is Back
Aquastar, like many other watch brands, is betting on the return of its old glories, and after we saw the Deepstar return in 2020, it is now the turn of another diver to come back, the Benthos.
The new Benthos H1 that has just landed is a reinterpretation of the Benthos 500 from the 70s, which now arrives in a limited edition of 500 units.
Aquastar’s latest dive watch has the same shape and dimensions as the past, wearing a Tonneau stainless steel case, 42mm in diameter, 16mm thick and 47mm lug-to-lug distance, unidirectional bezel of 120 clicks with black ceramic insert whose diving scale glows in the dark, sapphire glass front, screw-down crown at 2 o’clock but now without the previous pusher at 4 o’clock, screwed steel case back and the same 500m water resistance true to the original.
The black dial comes with applied block-type hour markers whose shape also extends to the minute track, which, like the stick-shaped centre hands, are filled with beige Super-LumiNova. An orange center seconds hand with an arrow-shape tip and finally the inscriptions of the brand at noon and the model on the opposite side at 6 o’clock.
Inside, it is powered by the automatic movement ETA 2824-2 without a date window just like the 1970s version, which operates at 28,800 Vph and offers up to 42 hours of power reserve.
The Benthos H1 arrives attached to a black ISOframe rubber strap, with a pre-order period in which the watch can be purchased for € 1,014, and after this time window, the price increases to € 1,293.
