The Incredible “CASIOAK” hand-painted by IFLW x The Dial Artist
The Casio G-Shock GA-2100 was born in 2019 and quickly turned the doubts of its design into strengths, with models regularly sold out due to unexpectedly high demand, who quickly named it “CASIOAK” in view of its “similarities” with the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.
Anyone who thinks the concept of this watch was the octagonal shape of the Royal Oak, was wrong, the Casio GA-2100 took 2 years to be developed and was based on its first model, the 1983 DW5000. Its octagonal shape goes back to that model to this day, although it’s more rectangular shape and with cut corners seem less pronounced than the current GA-2100, which presents a more square shape and whose cut corners better pronounce the octagonal silhouette. Many of the doubts that arose during its development were related to the fact that it broke with the characteristics of its traditional models, usually with large digital displays completely filled with numerous functions and complications, while the GA-2100 presented itself with an analog dial, a small analog day indicator and a small digital display reminiscent of its origins, in short, an unoccupied display never seen before. In spite of that, it retained everything that a G-Shock should have, such as robustness, shock and resistance capacity, and numerous functions such as perpetual calendar, stopwatch, chiming alarm, world time, luminescence, and 200m of water resistance, all this for a price around € 99.
Today there are many variants of the GA-2100 as one would expect and it is expected that many more will emerge in the future as the public’s interest remains and does not seem to hold back. But today what we bring is not the traditional models, but some models of the “CASIOAK” totally unique.
Since mid-March this year, IFL Watches, in partnership with The Dial Artist, have undertaken a new project that involves hand-painting some models of the Casio GA-2100, namely its dial, its indexes and the inscriptions of its bezel. Initially, three models were launched as limited editions, each of 200 units, which quickly sold out. However, the good news is that at the moment there are three new models but with regular editions and it is expected that they will produce more units of the models already sold out or at least similar variants, namely the “CASIOAK” Galaxy version which seems to us to be one of the most interesting. As far as prices are concerned, they are far from the retail prices of the Casio GA-2100, with the LE already sold out for € 599 and now regular editions priced at € 549. However, we remind you that each watch is painted by hand and therefore everyone will have their own nuances and will always be unique pieces, which will probably justify the price, but if you still consider it as a high value, there is no reason to despair as you can always buy one of the several models of the GA-2100 available on the market for values around € 99 / € 110.
