The Colorful Rolex Day-Date That “Isn’t” a Trul Day-Date

Another of Rolex’s great surprises is the new Day-Date “Jigsaw Puzzle” which, as we have already mentioned with the new Oyster Perpetual “Bubbles”, demonstrates a new attitude of the brand, where conservatism is beginning to give some space to risk.

The new Rolex Day-Date is not actually a day-date, as the day and date windows are replaced with a set of inspirational words and fun Emojis respectively.

On the outside, the new Day-Date doesn’t present any new features, it keeps the same design as the entire collection, available in a 36mm case in yellow gold, white gold or everose gold, with a fluted bezel, crown engraved with the coronet, front sapphire glass, solid case back, 100m of water resistance and presidential bracelet matching the case.

It is on the dial that the game changes, with a turquoise or orange dial in the background on which several puzzle pieces coloured in red, orange, yellow, purple, turquoise and green stand out, whose concept represents the puzzle pieces of your life. It should also be noted that all parts are embroidered with gold.

The dial’s novelties are not limited to the puzzle motif, as they also feature 10 baguette-cut sapphires in six different shades as hour markers, a day window at 12 o’clock which now gives way to an internal disk with seven inspiring words which are – Happy, Eternity, Gratitude, Peace, Faith, Love and Hope. The same happens with the date window at 3 o’clock whose new disc is designed with 31 Emojis with cherries, kisses, and love hearts, among many others. Finally, the dial is complete with the three central hands in gold.

The fun Day-Date comes powered by the Caliber 3255 automatic movement that operates at 28,800 Vph and offers up to 70 hours of power reserve.

Our Thoughts

We finally start to see Rolex come out of its “shell” and take a little risk, often accused of being too conservative and taking too little risk, it is interesting to see this new attitude on the part of the brand which makes us excited about what it has reserved for us for the future.

For now, they manage to get us a huge smile only superimposed, but not supplanted, by the surprise, and although it has left some of its public less satisfied, perhaps even more conservative than the brand itself. For us, we can only say that we loved it and we look forward to seeing more future “bubble” and “jigsaw puzzles” dials.
