The Amazing A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus Chronograph
In 2019, A. Lange & Söhne surprised the world with the launch of the unlikely Odysseus, a sport steel watch that strayed from its conventional line, and which gained fans over time, last year surprised us again with a new Odysseus this time in titanium, and today a year later the brand presents the new Odysseus Chronograph, which also serves to mark the brand’s debut in automatic chronographs.
The new Odysseus Chronograph is nothing short of spectacular, as unlike many other brands, the German brand manages to introduce this complication into the watch while maintaining all of its original design.
But that’s not all, Lange, in addition to being able to preserve the exterior and interior lines of the watch in a supreme way, also adds a set of innovations in the new In-house automatic movement L156.1, once again unlikely, which demonstrates the mastery of brand in the design of chronograph movements.
But let’s go to the watch, the new Odysseus Chronograph which wears a stainless steel case 42.5mm in diameter by 14.2mm thick, exactly with the same design as the regular Odysseus, with a brushed finish on most of the surface alternating with a polished finish on the bezel and edges, fluted crown at 3 o’clock flanked by two push-buttons, sapphire glass front and case back and 120m water resistance. The watch comes with the traditional five-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp and with the same finish as the case.
Like the case, the dial features the same layout as the regular version with a textured black dial, applied hour markers and hands filled with luminescent material, big day and date windows at 9 and 3 o’clock respectively and small seconds at 6 o’clock. Now adding a red central chronograph seconds hand and also a central elapsed minutes hand that comes with a lozenge tip.
Inside, and as already mentioned, the new 516-part Caliber L156.1 operates, which runs at 28,800 Vph and offers up to 50 hours of power reserve.
After the presentations, we reserved the main plate of this chronograph for the end, its way of operating. Just like the conventional ones, it comes to life through the two pushers positioned at 2 and 4 o’clock, and if you activate the START and STOP through the 2 o’clock pusher nothing new happens, the same does not apply when we activate the RESET through the 4 o’clock pusher, as the chronograph makes the two central chronograph hands return in different ways. Counterclockwise (to the right) whenever the minute hand has not yet reached 30 minutes, or clockwise (in a conventional way to the left) whenever the minute hand has passed 30 minutes. The two pushers, in addition to controlling the chronograph function, also serve to set the day and date windows of the watch, just like the regular versions of the Odysseus, for that you just need to pull the crown, since we remember that the crown in its normal position operates the chronograph.
Finally, it should be noted that this is a limited edition of just 100 pieces, exclusive to the brand’s boutiques and whose price is available upon request.
