Our Thoughts About the New Oris ProPilot X Caliber 400
Among the many novelties presented by the brands in the latest edition of Watches And Wonders, there are always those that stand out for their spectacularity, others for their ingenuity, others for their surprise and then there are those that almost go unnoticed for their simplicity but which in the end are recognized by its value and sobriety.
Oris is one of those cases, it manages to produce watches of great quality and with a classic touch without attracting a great spotlight. This year was no different, with the launch of the ProPilot X Caliber 400, which at first glance may not be surprising but at second glance we like what we see.
The new Oris ProPilt X, despite the name it bears, has very little to do with aviation and with the rest of the ProPilot collection, in fact, it has little more than the titanium case and bracelet to find affinities linked to that world.
Everything is almost different in the new trend of the ProPilot collection, starting with the new 39mm case which represents 2mm less than what was until now the smallest size in the collection, the introduction of crown guards which is a complete novelty and a bracelet with a completely new design, which stands out for presenting a clasp in the shape of aviation safety belts, to highlight that it also maintains the serrated bezel that is one of the signatures of the ProPilot line.
The dial is offered in three different colours, blue, grey or salmon, it also shows a break with the traditional layout of the collection, dropping the Arabic numbers incorporating now long lipstick hour markers and a date window, now repositioned at 6 o’clock, it only keeps the shaped hands of the ProPilot collection.
On the inside and following the renovation of the case and dial, the ProPilot X also does not disappoint here, receiving a new movement, the in-house Caliber 400 (the second developed by the brand) debuted less than a year ago, which offers an incredible five days of power reserve and ten years warranty.
The watch is now available in the brand’s official boutiques and retailers for a price of €3,800.
Our Opinion
As we have already mentioned, and it seems that we are not alone, we do not see the new ProPilot X as an aviation watch, but as a daily watch and in this sense we can say that we like it a lot, mainly for its versatility, as it can be worn formal or casual, which is why it seems to us to be an excellent alternative to watches like the Oyster Perpetual or the Omega Aqua Terra at a much more attractive price.
Finally, we can only say that we are looking forward to trying it and seeing the salmon version, which is the one that attracts us the most.
