Furlan Marri and Time+Tide Present the Outback Songlines
Furlan Marri has teamed up once again with Australian watch retailer and media platform Time+Tide for the Outback Songlines, a 39 mm automatic wristwatch inspired by one of Australia’s oldest traditions of navigating and remembering the land. Following the 2024 Outback Elegy, this is the second collaborative edition between the two names, but it introduces a distinctive case construction previously seen in Furlan Marri’s Red Hunter.
The Outback Songlines combines a contemporary 39mm stainless steel case with a traditional-style hinged hunter caseback, a warm brown and rose-gold dial, and the La Joux-Perret G100 automatic movement. Rather than simply referencing Australian imagery, the design uses the concept of Songlines as its central theme.
A Dial Inspired by the Outback
Songlines are traditional Aboriginal systems of transmitting knowledge about the landscape through songs. Their narratives can encode information about routes, water sources, shelter and food, allowing knowledge of the land to be passed between generations and used for navigation.
That idea is reflected in the Outback Songlines through its dial. The surface features a deep brown, grained and lacquered finish, creating a textured backdrop for the applied elements. Curved hour markers and steel half-spheres add depth, while the combination of brown and rose-gold tones gives the watch a distinctly warm appearance.
The 4N rose-gold-plated seconds hand provides a subtle connection to the movement beneath the dial, particularly its matching rose-gold-toned rotor.
The overall colour palette also reinforces the Australian inspiration, with earthy brown tones recalling the Outback landscape and metallic rose gold providing a warmer accent.
The Return of the Hunter Case
One of the most unusual elements of the watch is its hinged hunter caseback. The construction was first introduced by Furlan Marri on the 36mm Red Hunter in 2025 and has now been adapted to the larger Songlines case.
Historically, hunter cases were designed with a protective hinged cover over the watch crystal. They became particularly associated with pocket watches during the 19th and early 20th centuries, when protecting the delicate crystal from impacts was considerably more important than it is today.
Furlan Marri reverses that traditional arrangement. Instead of protecting the dial, the hinged cover is positioned over the caseback. A discreet notch on the side allows it to be opened, revealing the movement and its decoration. The inside of the cover carries a Time+Tide engraving, further identifying the collaborative nature of the watch.
While modern sapphire crystal and anti-reflective coatings eliminate much of the practical need for such protection, the hunter construction gives the Outback Songlines a distinctive mechanical and historical character.
A Larger 39mm Profile
The Outback Songlines moves away from the compact 36mm dimensions of the Red Hunter in favour of a 39 mm stainless steel case.
The case measures 12.06 mm thick and 47 mm from lug to lug, creating proportions that sit comfortably between vintage-inspired sizing and contemporary everyday-wear dimensions. The case is produced in 316L stainless steel and features a screw-down crown, while 100 metres of water resistance provides a useful level of practical durability.
The larger diameter also changes the way the hunter caseback interacts with the watch. The additional surface area provides more room for the hinged construction and makes the movement visible through the rear opening a more prominent part of the design.
Two Strap Options
Furlan Marri supplies the Outback Songlines with two interchangeable options: a three-row stainless steel bracelet and a brown calfskin leather strap.
Both are equipped with quick-release systems, allowing the owner to change the appearance of the watch without tools. The leather strap is paired with a signed steel buckle.
The bracelet gives the 39 mm case a more contemporary character, while the brown calfskin strap reinforces the watch’s vintage-inspired side and complements the earthy tones of the dial.
La Joux-Perret G100 Automatic Movement
Powering the Outback Songlines is the La Joux-Perret G100, an automatic movement also used in the Red Hunter.
The calibre operates with a 68-hour power reserve and is specified to an accuracy of ±7 seconds per day. Its relatively long reserve means the watch can be left unworn for a weekend without necessarily requiring a reset when it is picked up again.
The movement is also visible through the hinged caseback. Its finishing includes Geneva stripes, snailing and blued-steel screws, while the automatic winding system is topped by a 4N rose-gold-coated tungsten rotor.
The contrast between the decorated movement and the unusual hinged cover makes the rear of the watch almost as important visually as its dial.
Price and Availability
The Furlan Marri Outback Songlines is priced at CHF 1,850. It is a retailer edition created exclusively for Time+Tide rather than a numbered limited edition.
The watch will officially launch on 19 September 2026, initially through Time+Tide’s online store with a 48-hour online-exclusive sales window. Following that period, it will be available through Time+Tide’s boutiques.
