TAG Heuer Revives The Iconic Seafarer Chronograph With Hodinkee

The Seafarer, TAG Heuer’s chronograph with tide indicator, is back and is the third limited edition in collaboration with Hodinkee.

After the Skipper and the Dato Carrera, the Swiss watch brand revived the Seafarer from the 1950s, inspired by the Heuer watch built for Abercrombie & Fitch that now fits in a Glassbox case.

The timepiece arrives in a 42mm stainless steel case, featuring the unmistakable domed sapphire glass, fluted crown at 3 o’clock flanked by two pump-pushers, an additional rectangular pusher at 9 o’clock that serves to adjust the tide indicator and 100m of water resistance.

The Seafarer ref. 2446C from 1968 inspired the black dial which comes with three silver registers with blue details, substantiated by a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a running seconds with the Seafarer inscription on its bezel at 6 o’clock and a tide indicator at 9 o’clock that makes a complete rotation at every 59 days with two blue-purple sections for high tides and another two white-ones for low tides. The applied hour marker and hands were filled with Super-LumiNova, a chronograph centre seconds hand, and the brand’s contemporary shield at noon shadowed by the Carrera mention.

At its heart, the In-house Caliber T20-13 automatic movement with column wheel and vertical clutch runs 28,800 Vph and offers up to 80 hours of power reserve.

The watch comes attached to a black textured rubber strap and is limited to 968 units, of which 125 are sold by Hodinkee and the rest in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers for USD 7,950.
