A Watch Inspired By A Baseball Legend: The Oris Lou Gehrig Big Crown Pointer Date
Swiss watchmaker Oris has unveiled the Big Crown Pointer Date Lou Gehrig Limited Edition, a special release created in partnership with the Lou and Eleanor Gehrig Family Foundation. The watch celebrates one of baseball’s most iconic figures while supporting the foundation’s ongoing charitable work.

Based on Oris’ signature Big Crown Pointer Date platform, the limited edition combines the collection’s distinctive design language with details inspired by Lou Gehrig’s legendary career with the New York Yankees.
A Design Inspired by Baseball History
The watch comes housed in a 40 mm stainless steel case measuring 12.20 mm thick with a 48.20 mm lug-to-lug distance, offering versatile proportions suitable for a wide range of wrist sizes. The polished and brushed surfaces highlight the classic character of the Big Crown Pointer Date, one of Oris’ most recognizable collections.

Its silver-colored dial serves as the foundation for several baseball-inspired details. A black peripheral dat Additional blue accents can be found on the minute track and around the applied hour markers, reflecting the colors closely associated with the New York Yankees. The dial combines Arabic numerals with baton-style hour markers, creating a sporty yet balanced appearance. Central hands with luminous treatment ensure readability in low-light conditions. Inside the watch is the Oris Calibre 754 automatic movement. Based on the Sellita SW200-1 architecture, the movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides approximately 41 hours of power reserve. The calibre powers the collection’s signature pointer date complication, with a dedicated central hand indicating the current date along the outer scale of the dial. This feature has been a defining characteristic of the Big Crown Pointer Date since its introduction in 1938. Oris delivers the watch with two distinct strap options. The first is a NATO-style strap featuring colors inspired by the New York Yankees, reinforcing the connection to the baseball team. The second option is a brown leather strap with contrasting stitching, designed to evoke the appearance of a traditional baseball glove. Together, the two straps offer owners the flexibility to switch between a sportier or more classic look. The Big Crown Pointer Date Lou Gehrig Limited Edition is produced in a run of 2,130 individually numbered watches. The number commemorates Gehrig’s remarkable streak of 2,130 consecutive Major League Baseball games played, a record that stood for decades and remains one of the sport’s most celebrated achievements. Further emphasizing the tribute, the stainless steel caseback features an engraved portrait of Lou Gehrig alongside the individual limited-edition number of each watch. The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Lou Gehrig Limited Edition is priced at € 2,400. In addition to commemorating one of baseball’s most enduring legends, the release contributes to the mission of the Lou and Eleanor Gehrig Family Foundation, continuing Oris’ tradition of supporting meaningful causes through special-edition timepieces.
