Raúl Pagès Wins First Louis Vuitton Watch Prize

Raúl Pagès, a Spanish-Swiss independent watchmaker, secured the inaugural Louis Vuitton Watch Prize for his RP1 – Régulateur à détente, an achievement that signifies a significant milestone in the Maison’s commitment to fostering innovation in watchmaking.

Pagès triumphed over a competitive field of nearly 1,000 entrants, including notable independents like Petermann Bédat and Simon Brette. Despite the stiff competition, Pagès’ RP1 emerged as the clear winner, earning him a year-long mentorship program with La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, a financial grant from LVMH, and a stunning silver trophy housed in an iconic Louis Vuitton trunk.

The RP1, while appearing simple on the surface, showcases Pagès’ innovative prowess. Crafted from stainless steel and powered by a bespoke calibre, it features a unique pivoted detent escapement—an antique mechanism revitalized by Pagès’ “anti-tripping” innovation to enhance shock resistance.

Originally from Les Brenets in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, Pagès honed his skills as a respected watch restorer before transitioning to independent craftsmanship in 2012. With a meticulous approach, he produces just four handcrafted watches annually, each reflecting his unwavering commitment to excellence across every stage of production—from research and development to manufacturing and finishing.
