Nearly three decades after the debut of the original Cabaret, A. Lange & Söhne brings back one of its most recognizable rectangular watches with the new Cabaret Tourbillon Honeygold. Produced in a limited run of just 50 pieces, the latest interpretation combines the manufacture’s proprietary Honeygold alloy with a black-rhodiumed dial, reinforcing the exclusivity of a model that already occupies a special place in the brand’s history.

First introduced in 1997, the Cabaret stood apart from the predominantly round watches in Lange’s collection thanks to its elongated rectangular profile and unmistakably Saxon approach to Art Deco-inspired design. The model gained even greater significance in 2008 with the launch of the Cabaret Tourbillon, the first wristwatch equipped with a stop-seconds mechanism for the tourbillon, allowing the rotating regulator to be halted for precise time-setting.

A Rectangular Case in Honeygold

The new Cabaret Tourbillon Honeygold preserves the original proportions of the model with a case measuring 29.50 mm wide, 39.20 mm long, and 10.30 mm thick. Crafted from Lange’s proprietary Honeygold alloy, the watch offers a distinctive appearance that sits somewhere between pink and yellow gold, while also benefiting from greater hardness than traditional gold alloys.

The warm tone of the case works particularly well with the Cabaret’s architecture, highlighted by its curved profile, stepped bezel, and sculpted lugs. The rectangular silhouette maintains a refined and elegant presence on the wrist while emphasizing the geometric character that has defined the collection since its introduction.

A Highly Detailed Three-Dimensional Dial

One of the most striking elements of the new release is its elaborately constructed dial. Manufactured in-house from solid Honeygold, the dial is composed of three separate sections, including the main display and two subsidiary indications for the running seconds and power reserve.

After the functional elements and scales are sculpted directly into the gold surface, the dial receives a black-rhodium treatment that creates a dark contrasting background. The raised details are then brushed by hand, revealing the warm Honeygold beneath and producing a dramatic interplay between light and shadow.

Applied Roman numerals, faceted hour markers, and the signature outsized date frame further enhance the layered construction of the dial. At 6 o’clock, the tourbillon aperture exposes the rotating regulator, framed by black-polished components that shift between reflective and dark tones depending on the viewing angle.

The Calibre L042.1

Turning the watch over reveals the manually wound calibre L042.1, a movement specifically designed to fit the Cabaret’s rectangular case shape. Composed of 370 individual components, including 84 dedicated to the tourbillon alone, the movement showcases many of the traditional finishing techniques associated with the Glashütte manufacture.

The untreated German silver three-quarter plate features Glashütte ribbing, while screwed gold chatons, thermally blued screws, and hand-engraved balance cocks reinforce the artisanal character of the movement.

The defining technical highlight remains the stop-seconds tourbillon mechanism. When the crown is pulled, a spring stops the balance wheel inside the rotating cage, allowing the wearer to set the time precisely to the second — a rare and technically demanding complication in a tourbillon wristwatch.

Twin mainspring barrels deliver an impressive 120-hour power reserve, while the movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour.

The Cabaret Tourbillon Honeygold is paired with a dark brown alligator leather strap secured by a matching Honeygold buckle. As expected from such a rare and technically sophisticated release, the watch will be produced in a limited edition of only 50 pieces, with pricing available upon request.
