New Ford Raptor T1+ Set To Tackle Dakar With Sainz And Roma
Ford has unveiled the new M-Sport-designed Raptor T1+ for the Dakar Rally, which will debut at Baja Hungría in August and continue at the Rallye du Maroc in October. Leading the team are seasoned drivers, Carlos Sainz and Nani Roma, with additional drivers set to join for the 2024 Dakar.
Mark Rushbrook of Ford Performance emphasized the challenges posed by the Dakar Rally and the collaborative efforts with M-Sport and Red Bull, showcasing the Raptor T1+ as a symbol of Ford’s global off-road ambitions. Matthew Wilson of M-Sport highlighted the extensive testing, over 10,000 km, involved in developing the vehicle, and praised the collaboration with Ford as a significant step in their ongoing partnership.
The Dakar-specific Ford Raptor T1+ has a five-litre V8 Coyote engine featuring a unique dry sump oil system and a specially tuned exhaust. It boasts a T45 steel space frame chassis with carbon fibre panels, weighs 2,010 kilograms, and measures 2,300 millimetres in width while maintaining a ground clearance of 400 mm. The suspension system includes three- and four-way adjustable Fox coil-over shocks with external bypass and remote reservoirs, independent double wishbone suspension, 355mm Alcon discs with six-piston callipers, and rides on 17-inch wheels fitted with 37-inch tyres.
