The iconic “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” colour takes centre stage in Audemars Piguet’s latest Royal Oak release. The new Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon (Ref. 26730CD) is the first model in the collection to feature the manufacture’s signature blue ceramic throughout its entire construction, from the case and bezel to the crown and integrated bracelet.

Inspired by the deep blue tone used on the original Royal Oak dials produced by Stern Frères in the early 1970s, the colour was first translated into ceramic in 2025. This latest release marks its debut on the full architecture of the Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon, bringing together the brand’s heritage and expertise in advanced materials.

A Full Ceramic Case

The case retains the familiar Royal Oak proportions, measuring 41 mm in diameter and 10.6mm thick, while offering 50 metres of water resistance. As expected from Audemars Piguet, the ceramic surfaces receive the same meticulous hand-finishing as the brand’s metal cases, alternating satin-brushed and polished finishes that highlight the sharp bevels and geometric lines synonymous with the Royal Oak design.

A glareproof sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the sapphire caseback—secured by a titanium frame—offers a view of the movement. Completing the package is the integrated ceramic bracelet fitted with a titanium AP folding clasp.

Monochromatic Dial With Flying Tourbillon

The monochromatic theme extends to the dial, which features Audemars Piguet’s signature Grande Tapisserie pattern executed in the same Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50 tone.

White gold applied hour markers and Royal Oak hands are filled with luminescent material to ensure legibility, while the display remains intentionally uncluttered with only central hours and minutes accompanied by the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock.

The bridge-free construction of the tourbillon creates the impression that the regulating organ is floating beneath the dial, making it the undisputed focal point of the watch.

Powering the watch is the in-house Calibre 2950, an automatic movement featuring a flying tourbillon. Originally introduced in the Code 11.59 collection before expanding to the Royal Oak family, the movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and delivers a 65-hour power reserve.

Visible through the sapphire caseback, the calibre showcases traditional haute horlogerie finishing, including Côtes de Genève, circular graining, polished bevels and a 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight finished in rhodium.

Swiss independent watchmaker MB&F has unveiled the HM12 The Guardian, a highly unconventional creation that blurs the boundaries between haute horlogerie and mechanical sculpture. Conceived as a robot-inspired figure with detachable components, the limited-edition piece combines a tourbillon wristwatch, a mechanical thermometer, a loupe, and a UV flashlight within a single interactive object.

At the heart of the concept is a fully functional wristwatch that forms the robot’s head. Designed around the appearance of a mechanical guardian, the HM12 introduces a unique display architecture, an elaborate movable face shield system, and a newly developed movement offering an 84-hour power reserve. Produced in just 36 examples across three color variants, it stands among the most ambitious creations ever released by the brand.

A Watch Hidden Inside a Mechanical Guardian

The HM12 The Guardian is presented as a robot-shaped sculpture composed of multiple elements. At its center is the wristwatch itself, forming the robot’s head, while the accompanying accessories are integrated into the figure’s arms and display stand.

The right arm houses a detachable loupe, allowing owners to examine the intricate movement details up close, while the left arm conceals a UV flashlight designed to activate the luminescent elements found throughout both the watch and sculpture. The figure stands on a dedicated plinth that doubles as a storage solution for the watch strap when the timepiece is displayed in its sculptural form.

Adding another mechanical feature, the robot’s chest incorporates a functional thermometer that continuously monitors ambient temperature.

A New Interpretation of the Horological Machine

Developed by MB&F founder Maximilian Büsser together with designer Maximilian Maertens, the HM12 introduces a fresh creative direction within the Horological Machine family.

The watch’s design was conceived around the idea of creating a robotic face. This concept directly influenced the display architecture, resulting in a distinctive layout where the time indications become integral elements of the character’s expression.

Jumping hour and trailing minute displays serve as the robot’s eyes, while MB&F’s signature double battle-axe rotor appears as a moving mouth. Positioned prominently at 12 o’clock, the flying tourbillon represents the mechanical “brain” of the Guardian, continuously rotating beneath a sapphire crystal opening.

Innovative Face Shield System

One of the HM12’s most distinctive features is the newly developed Face Shield System.

Comprising approximately 200 individual components, the mechanism allows the wearer to reveal or conceal sections of the dial through a dedicated crown-operated system. Colored panels located across the forehead, eyebrows, and cheeks can gradually slide open, transforming the appearance of the watch from a fully masked robotic face to a completely exposed display.

The mechanism can also be positioned at intermediate stages, creating multiple visual configurations. To protect the intricate assembly, MB&F equipped the system with a decoupling function that prevents damage once the shields reach their fully extended or retracted positions.

Titanium Construction and Haute Horlogerie Finishing

The HM12 is housed in a Grade 5 titanium case measuring 43.60 mm wide, 49.30 mm long, and 13.60 mm thick.

Its architecture features large skeletonized lugs and a quick-release strap system that allows seamless transition between wrist-worn and display configurations. Multiple sapphire crystal windows provide views of the movement from different angles, with particular emphasis on the tourbillon positioned at the top of the dial.

Powering the watch is an in-house movement offering an 84-hour power reserve.

Turning the watch over reveals a more traditional interpretation of haute horlogerie. The movement showcases finely finished bridges, hand-executed anglage, and textured surfaces that contrast with the futuristic aesthetic visible on the dial side.

The micro-rotor features guilloché decoration produced in collaboration with the workshop of renowned independent watchmaker Kari Voutilainen, further highlighting the artisanal craftsmanship behind the project.

Three Limited Editions

The HM12 The Guardian is available in three colorways—blue, green, and purple—each reflecting shades frequently used throughout MB&F’s collections.

Production is strictly limited to 12 pieces per color, resulting in a total of only 36 watches worldwide. MB&F has confirmed that these launch editions will also be the final editions, ensuring the HM12 remains one of the rarest creations in the Horological Machine series.

Bell & Ross continues to expand its Experimental series with the introduction of the BR-X3 Tourbillon Micro-Rotor, a model designed around the idea of complete mechanical transparency. Rather than emphasising traditional dial design, the brand allows the movement to take centre stage, integrating it visually and structurally with the case.

A Case Built Around the Movement

The watch preserves the brand’s iconic square shape, but the construction is far from conventional. The BR-X3 Tourbillon Micro-Rotor features a 40 mm case with a remarkably slim 9 mm profile, a technical achievement considering the complexity of the calibre inside. The middle case is made from satin-brushed and polished steel, while both the top and the caseback are crafted entirely from sapphire crystal. This layered architecture creates a transparent frame through which the movement can be admired from every angle, and the four corner screws secure the structure in place, remaining faithful to Bell & Ross design codes.

A Fully Exposed Movement With Geometric Precision

With no dial covering the mechanics, the BR-CAL.389 automatic movement becomes the focal point of the watch. Since the movement is the main attraction, the watch keeps time display to the essentials. Hours and minutes are shown on an off-centred smoked sapphire disc located at 2 o’clock, blending into the architecture while maintaining clear legibility. Our Take

As I’ve mentioned here many times, I’m not naturally drawn to skeletonized watches. Over the years, though, I’ve learned to appreciate them—mainly because they reveal the mechanical depth that fascinates so many of us in the world of watchmaking. Still, there are only a handful that truly capture my attention or make me think, “Yes, I’d actually want to own that.” The new Bell & Ross BR-X3 Tourbillon Micro-Rotor seems destined to join that very small club. A Case Worthy of a Milestone

The RD#5 retains the proportions that have made the Royal Oak “Jumbo” a timeless favorite: 39 mm in diameter and just 8.10 mm in thickness. The case is crafted from lightweight titanium, complemented by elements in Bulk Metallic Glass (BMG), including the bezel, pusher system, bracelet studs, and crown selector. On the wrist, the piece preserves the slender, elegant profile that has defined the “Jumbo,” while introducing new levels of technical complexity.

The dial stays true to the collection’s codes, presented in the classic “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” hue, with two sunken chronograph counters enhanced by a snailed finish. The most significant departure from convention is the replacement of the traditional hammer and heart cam reset system with a rack and pinion design. Each chronograph hand is connected to its own rack, which stores and releases energy as the hands move. This innovation allows resets to occur in under 0.15 seconds with minimal pressure on the pushers, aided by lightweight titanium components.

The flyback mechanism also benefits from this architecture, enabling instantaneous restarts without the need for extra force. Powering the caliber is a peripheral rotor, the first ever used in a Royal Oak “Jumbo”, ensuring unobstructed views of the movement’s intricate mechanics through the sapphire caseback.

Ultra-Thin Flying Tourbillon

Crown Selector System

In another functional refinement, the crown has been redesigned to simplify user interaction. Master Grande Tradition Calibre 985

The Master Grande Tradition Calibre 985 represents one of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s most intricate achievements. At its heart lies the automatic Calibre 985, a movement comprising 431 individual components that combines a perpetual calendar, a moonphase display, and a flying tourbillon. The perpetual calendar dominates the dial with sub-dials for the day, date, month, and year, each finished with contrasting textures and polished hands. Complementing this is an astronomical moonphase that remains accurate for 122 years, with a polished moon and stars displayed against a deep backdrop.

IWC Schaffhausen introduces a refined addition to its Portugieser collection: the Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph (Ref. IW394009). This new model brings together three sophisticated complications — a flying tourbillon, flyback chronograph, and retrograde date — within a luxurious 18k Armor Gold case and an Obsidian black lacquered dial. Case and Materials
