Armin Strom expands its technically ambitious Dual Time GMT Resonance collection with a new edition crafted in 18k rose gold. While the mechanics remain unchanged, the introduction of this precious metal case brings a distinct warmth and visual refinement to one of the most complex contemporary travel watches on the market.

Case and Construction

The Dual Time GMT Resonance is housed in a 39 mm 18k rose gold case measuring just 9.05 mm in thickness and 44.50 mm from lug to lug. These compact proportions are particularly noteworthy given the movement’s dual regulating systems and resonance mechanism.

The case features a combination of polished surfaces and sharply executed bevels, enhancing the sculptural quality of the design. A defining element of this generation is the subtle bezel lip at 6 o’clock, which adds character without disrupting the overall symmetry. The watch is fitted with two crowns, positioned at 4 and 8 o’clock, allowing each time zone to be set independently — a practical solution that reinforces its functionality as a true dual-time watch rather than a conventional GMT with a secondary hand.

Sapphire crystals with anti-reflective treatment protect both the dial and the movement, and the case offers a water resistance of 50 metres.

Dial Architecture and Display

The dial construction remains faithful to the established Dual Time GMT Resonance layout while adapting visually to the rose gold case. Two separate time displays dominate the lower half of the dial, each finished in black gold-coloured grenage and framed by black azurage chapter rings. Applied rose gold-coloured indices and polished hands complement the warmth of the case material and maintain strong legibility.

At 6 o’clock within each sub-dial sits an engraved and mirror-polished day/night indicator, providing a clear visual distinction between home time and local time.

The upper section of the dial exposes the technical centrepiece of the watch: two balance wheels oscillating side by side in full view. These are linked by Armin Strom’s proprietary resonance clutch spring, a component engineered to synchronise the two independent regulating systems. Positioned between the twin barrels in the lower portion of the movement is the ratchet mechanism, reinforcing the symmetrical and architectural nature of the design.

Calibre ARF22 – Dual Gear Trains in Resonance

At the heart of the watch is the manufacture calibre ARF22, a manual-winding movement developed and produced entirely in-house. The calibre is constructed around two completely independent gear trains and two separate regulating organs. Each balance beats at 25,200 vibrations per hour (3.5Hz).

The resonance clutch spring enables the balances to synchronise through the physical phenomenon of resonance, contributing to improved rate stability. The movement provides a power reserve of 42 hours.

Finishing is executed to a high standard and is visible through the sapphire caseback. In line with Armin Strom’s manufacturing philosophy, each movement is assembled twice — first to ensure technical performance and then disassembled for decoration and final assembly — underscoring the brand’s emphasis on precision and craftsmanship.

Marking 250 years of watchmaking excellence, Breguet has introduced a special limited edition of its globetrotting timepiece, the Marine Hora Mundi 5555. Limited to just 50 pieces, this anniversary edition stands out for its sophisticated dual-time mechanism, exquisite artistic dial, and luxurious Breguet gold case — combining technical ingenuity with visual artistry.

A Three-Dimensional View of the World

The dial of the Marine Hora Mundi 5555 is a striking work of art, composed of two superimposed layers that create the illusion of a three-dimensional globe. The base dial is crafted in Breguet gold and decorated with a hand-guilloché pattern of meridians and parallels. Its colour gradually shifts from sky blue in the center to deep navy at the periphery, a gradient inspired by NASA’s “Black Marble” night view of Earth. Above it lies a translucent sapphire crystal dial, on which the continents are painted in miniature enamel on the reverse side, while their contours are pad-printed in Grand Feu enamel to add a sense of volume. Clouds are painted on the front of the sapphire disc and also receive a Grand Feu enamel treatment. Breguet has even developed a patent-pending phosphorescent enamel that lights up selected cities at night, producing an ethereal glow that differs from conventional Super-LumiNova.

Enhancing legibility, the watch features blued gold Roman numerals filled with subtle grey Super-LumiNova, as well as Breguet’s signature pomme-shaped hour and minute hands. The day/night indicator is adorned with a gold Sun featuring a radiant sunburst finish and a hand-hammered Moon, adding a poetic touch to the dial.

Breguet Gold Case and Finishing

The 43.90 mm case is fashioned from a special warm-toned Breguet gold, recalling the hues used by 18th-century watchmakers. It has a thickness of 13.80 mm and offers a reassuring 100 metres of water resistance, which is impressive for a watch of such mechanical complexity. The case is distinguished by Breguet’s signature fluted middle and polished central lugs, while the caseback bears a commemorative “Quai de l’Horloge” guilloché motif created specifically for the brand’s 250th anniversary. Through a sapphire crystal porthole, the wearer can admire the movement and its Breguet gold rotor. The finishing reflects the brand’s haute horlogerie standards, with Côtes de Genève, perlage, and finely beveled bridges.

A Dual-Time Marvel: Calibre 77F1

At the heart of the Marine Hora Mundi 5555 is the in-house automatic calibre 77F1, a patented system that redefines how world-time watches operate. Instead of using an additional GMT hand, it allows the wearer to pre-select two cities and instantly switch between their local times with a single press of the crown-integrated pusher at 8 o’clock. When activated, the central hour and minute hands perform an instant jump to display the selected time zone, while the date and the day/night indicator are simultaneously adjusted in perfect sync. This seamless functionality is possible thanks to its complex architectural mechanism. The movement beats at 4 Hz, offers a 55-hour power reserve, and features a silicon escapement that enhances resistance to magnetism and corrosion.

The Marine Hora Mundi 5555 is delivered in a red Moroccan leather presentation box and is paired with a navy blue alligator leather strap secured by a Breguet gold triple-folding clasp. An additional sporty rubber strap is also included. Only 50 individually numbered pieces will be produced, each offering the possibility to customise the city disc according to the owner’s preference. The watch is priced at CHF 88,000.

Jacob & Co. has unveiled the second chapter of The World Is Yours Dual Time Zone, a remarkable evolution of its 2023 predecessor. While the new model retains the signature aesthetic of the original, the standout innovation lies in the inclusion of a central tourbillon, subtly concealed beneath the Compass Rose.

The dial remains a masterpiece, featuring a meticulously laser-etched world map on a curved titanium base. A rich blue PVD treatment enhances the oceans, while the continents shine in a luxurious rose gold finish. Two sub-dials, positioned at 12 and 6 o’clock, display dual time zones independently. The upper sub-dial showcases Roman numerals, while the lower counterpart opts for Arabic numerals. Both feature Dauphine hands and a refined railway minute track, replacing the previous model’s Arabic numeral ring. At the heart of the dial, a striking 30-second double-paced tourbillon takes center stage, partially obscured by the elegant Compass Rose.

Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, it delivers an impressive 65-hour power reserve.
