Maen Refines Its Flagship Diver With The Hudson 38 MK5
Maen continues to refine its Hudson dive watch collection with the introduction of the Hudson 38 MK5, the fifth generation of the brand’s compact professional diver. First launched in 2018, the Hudson line has evolved steadily, and the MK5 represents the most technically advanced and visually refined iteration to date.

The new model builds on a familiar design foundation inspired by mid-20th-century dive watches, while incorporating modern materials, improved ergonomics, and a higher-grade automatic movement.
Case and construction
The 38 mm stainless steel case retains the Hudson’s compact footprint but has been redesigned for slimmer proportions. Case thickness is now reduced to 11 mm, excluding the newly introduced box-shaped sapphire crystal, which adds a vintage profile while improving scratch resistance.

The case features a fully brushed finish, with subtly reshaped lugs that appear longer due to reduced curvature. Maen has added drilled lug holes, making strap changes easier. Water resistance remains a strong 300 meters, positioning the Hudson 38 MK5 firmly as a capable dive watch rather than a desk diver.
Dial and legibility
The Hudson 38 MK5 is available with black or blue dials, both finished with a matte, grainy texture designed to reduce glare and enhance legibility in bright conditions. Each dial color can be ordered with or without a date, with no difference in pricing between configurations.

Maen’s distinctive baton-style hour and minute hands, remain a defining element of the design. Surrounding the dial is a 60-second chapter ring, graduated down to quarter-second intervals, offering precise time-reading functionality.
The black-dial variants feature black chapter rings, while the blue-dial versions are paired with white chapter rings for increased contrast.
Bezel and lume upgrades
One of the most noticeable updates on the MK5 is the polished ceramic bezel insert, replacing earlier versions and offering increased scratch resistance. The bezel includes a luminous pip, another addition introduced in response to customer feedback.

All hands and applied hour markers are filled with X1 Super-LumiNova, which emits a blue glow for improved nighttime visibility. Certain black-dial references also feature red luminous accents on the seconds hand and hour hand tip, as well as corresponding details on the dial and bezel pip, continuing a design theme present in earlier Hudson models.
Movement
Inside the Hudson 38 MK5 is the La Joux-Perret Caliber G100, an automatic movement positioned as a premium alternative to the Miyota 9015. Both manufacturers belong to the Citizen Group, but the G100 offers enhanced specifications.
The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and delivers a substantial 68-hour power reserve. Both date and no-date versions use the same movement architecture, which implies a crown position reserved for date adjustment even on non-date models.
Strap options and availability
The Hudson 38 MK5 is delivered as standard on Maen’s TPU rubber strap with a pin buckle. Buyers can also opt for a three-link stainless steel bracelet, featuring polished center links, quick-release spring bars, and a sliding micro-adjustment clasp for improved fit.

The Maen Hudson 38 MK5 is scheduled to be released on January 28th, priced at USD 875 with a rubber strap and USD 1,059 with a stainless steel strap.
With its updated case proportions, ceramic bezel, enhanced lume, and upgraded automatic movement, the Hudson 38 MK5 represents a significant step forward for Maen’s flagship dive watch collection.
Our Take
The new Maen Hudson 38 MK5 represents a clear qualitative step forward for a dive watch that was already offering an impressive set of features at a highly competitive price point. The latest technical and design updates further enhance its appeal, making the MK5 the most complete Hudson to date. Our personal favorite is the blue-dial version without a date window, which best highlights the model’s clean, tool-watch character. That said, the black-dial variant with a date deserves special mention, thanks to its red accents on the seconds and minute hands, as well as the inverted triangle at 12 o’clock on the bezel and the highlighted cardinal points on the minute track, which add a subtle yet distinctive touch of character.
