Oris Interprets the Year Of The Fire Horse With A Business Calendar Watch

The Chinese New Year begins on 17 February 2026 with the Year of the Fire Horse, a zodiac sign traditionally associated with strength, momentum and confidence. To mark the occasion, Oris introduces a limited-edition timepiece built around one of its most technically ambitious movements, combining symbolic colours with a complex calendar display.

Case Design and Dimensions

The watch is housed in a 43 mm stainless steel case measuring 13.10 mm in thickness, with a lug-to-lug length of 50.50 mm. Its proportions are designed to accommodate the multi-layered business calendar display and the large in-house movement. A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the dial, while water resistance is rated at 50 metres. All calendar functions are adjusted via the crown, with no additional correctors integrated into the caseband.

Dial, Colours and Finishing

The dial is finished in a deep red tone and paired with gold-coloured details. These colours are traditionally associated with prosperity and good fortune in Chinese culture. Applied hour markers and Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 are gold-plated, as are the central hour and minute hands, which feature slender, pointed tips for a refined appearance.

Business Calendar Layout

A full business calendar is displayed across the dial. A 52-week scale runs along the outer edge and is indicated by a centrally mounted pointer hand with a gold finish and a pink tip. The months are printed in full and positioned between the applied hour markers, creating a clear and legible separation between weekly and monthly indications.

Sub-Dials and Calendar Displays

Two recessed sub-dials are positioned at 9 and 3 o’clock, each with a gradient finish transitioning from a lighter centre to a darker, wine-coloured perimeter. The left sub-dial combines the small seconds with an oversized date display, while the right sub-dial houses the power reserve indicator. Between the two sub-dials, a rectangular aperture displays the day of the week.

Power Reserve Indicator

The power reserve display departs from a traditional scale by using two stylised pink horses to indicate the remaining energy in the mainspring. A galloping horse represents a fully wound state, corresponding to the movement’s maximum 10-day power reserve, while a resting horse indicates that the watch requires winding. This patented system is driven by a worm-gear mechanism developed by Oris, allowing for a gradual and controlled countdown.

The Oris Calibre 113

Powering the watch is the hand-wound Oris Calibre 113, first introduced in 2017, the movement builds upon the architecture developed for Oris’s 110th anniversary in 2014.

Visible through the sapphire caseback, it operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. Two large brushed bridges dominate the layout, with an open section revealing the oversized barrel and the balance wheel. The large barrel plays a key role in delivering the 10-day power reserve that defines this calibre.

Limited Edition, Strap and Price

The Oris Year of the Fire Horse is limited to 88 individually numbered pieces, referencing the cultural significance of the number eight as a symbol of good fortune. The watch is paired with a dark brown Shell Cordovan horsehide leather strap and secured with a stainless steel folding clasp. It is presented in a wooden box and retails for € 6,650.
